What's not to love? If you're a sports fan or casual diner, Chick's is a "spot" to kick back, hang with friends, enjoy a brew, cocktail and a meal. It's laid back, but offering some of the best brews on tap in Philly (also bottled or canned), but there is also a full bar for drinks or cocktails, if thats how you might get down. The food fits the atmosphere, from sandwiches, entrees to salads, your unreasonable palate won't be bored here, quite the contrary. We had a couple of sandwiches, decadently spiced with great portions (the shoestring fries are a thing of their own, crunchy, spiced goodness). Atmosphere is casual with a flair, real glasses and silverware classes up the joint, seating is comfy, and conversations can be had without having to shout. Checking out the Birds, Flyboys, Sixers or Phil's? Seven big screens allow to you to keep tabs on your parlay or favorite team. On the Ave, Washington Avenue that is, its close to all things in the heart of the city. Whether your low key celebrating, chilling, or on a date night (its easy on the wallet for a casual date), Chick's is def worth a visit.

The food here is fantastic. I was really surprised. Order the roast pork sandwich or cheeseburger. It loses a star because of how noisy it is. They need some sound absorption in there, otherwise it's great. I thought this place would have a hipster vibe, but has more of a vibe/crowd of Stogie Joes. We ordered the roast pork sandwich, the double cheeseburger, the Fredo pizza and chocolate peanut butter cake. The pork sandwich was the best i have ever had in this city. The double cheeseburger is also fantastic. Its dressed and tastes like a Big Mac or quarter pounder except home made, fresher, and made with better ingredients, lol. We skipped the fries and went for side salads instead which were really great, too. The pizza here is legit. Really nice, thin crust. Not cracker thin like snooty pizza places, just classic pizza parlor crust and quality ingredients. They better never lose their cooks/chefs here because these cooks make spot-on food.

While shopping with my wife for a new stove, I showed her a new place that I noticed on Whashington Avenue. She pulled it up on her phone and 20 minutes later, we decided to check it out. The place looked great upon entering, we sat at the bar and ordered take out. Buffalo wings, ceasar salad and the double burger. The bartender was fantastic although we didn't order any drinks, very friendly - a great representative for the establishment. She showed us a brunch menu and had me actually wishing it was Sat or Sunday... We left feeling like this was a nice place to bring our 11 year old son for a Saturday morning feast. When we got home, my wife was starving - ready to dig in. I was actually planning to save my burger for later, " a snack while watching the game". Then I hear it, every husband knows what I'm talking about - they didn't give me any celery. Okay, I know it's just celery but when you have a taste for something - you just wish that everything was as it is supposed to be. I decide to start to get dinner ready but first out of curiosity, I decide to check my burger. All looked well at first but upon close inspection, I noticed that the bottom bun was completely soggy "heartbroken". I then checked the French fries in a separate container, overcooked and hard.

I called, informing them of what happened. The person asked where I was from - University area and that I would be returning my burger. You ever try to cross the 49th street bridge around 3 in the afternoon, " right" but the burger was inedible, especially since I paid $14. When I reached the place, I may have been greeted by the owner. I think her name may have been Laura. She apologized and stated that she simply wanted to make me happy. That's cool, mistakes happen. I replaced my burger order with buffalo wings and an order of fries. She told me to have a seat at the bar and the manager, Elaina - would take care of me. I waited for my order, the friendly bartender came over, remembered me from earlier - and offered me some water. That is what I was drinking earlier but I just think it would have been appropriate for the owner or the manager who directed me to the bar - to at least offer," hey would you like a beer or cocktail - on the house - for the inconvenience of having to come back from U. City and wasting your time and gas. My food arrives, I check it. A waiter explains that he didn't completely closed the lid on the fries because that would make the fries hard, " I believe the condensation would make the fries "soggy" but whatever. Lastly, its mind blowing to me that they didn't even offer to comp any of my meal, no card for a discount on a return visit - not even a friggin beer. I left with the impression that despite wanting to make me happy, it was actually about the money. The place looked great, the bartender was fantastic selling the place but the management was truly disappointing. Despite this, I may return for brunch - I hope you read this and learn something from it. I actually took some of my game time to write...

Update 2024: We live nearby and have come here a few times now besides ordering drinks and take out. The inside is really busy, bustling and loud - so I wouldn't choose Chicks ever for a quiet meal where it's easy to hear people talk. It's definitely more of a sport type bar so that makes sense. The food is always really great, and highly recommend brunch! I ordered banana pancakes and they were phenomenal. Our most recent experience was a little unfortunate, and I'm sure out of their norm since the waitress was new... but we were there for a total of two hours for brunch. It took an hour to get our food, 20-30 minutes to get drinks each time we ordered. We got to the point where we were just staring at each other, haha. We also received the wrong drinks twice, and almost got charged for a big order. Again, I have a feeling this is out of the norm for them, so we'll be back to see.

We've ordered take out from here, and grabbed drinks outside several times since we live in the neighborhood. We also recently for the first time went to eat inside. We've always had good experiences with their food and service. When we ate recently inside the waiters were so crazy patient with the babies we had with us (not ours) and it was our first time eating at a restaurant with babies in tow. The food is always good, and I was surprised by how great their Mac and cheese is - its simple but super moist and cheesy. The fries are also nice and crispy, and their chicken sandwich is on point. We've ordered food for people visiting us several times and always like it. We also really appreciate how much sun their outdoor seats get, it's so nice on a slightly chilly, sunny day to...

We ended up here on a fluke after going to The Heart Show at Jinxed (a fun variety store with lots of unique items). It was a short walk and the minute we walked in all of the staff was extremely friendly. The hostess was very pleasant and not only seating people, helping to clean tables and refill water when needed. We had Alexa as our server and she was GREAT, very attentive and not over attentive with all of her tables.

Everything we had was DELICIOUS, FRESH AND VERY TASTY. We had the fried burrata with crostini. It was served nice and hot. It was one of the best things we have tasty in a while. As soon as we each had a bite we said, “mmmmm”. We shared the French fries with short rib. The fries were fried perfectly and the short rib was seasoned and very tender. The juice from the short rib and fries were a perfect combination. Highly, highly recommend this item.

We finished with the cheesesteak Stromboli with spicy ketchup. The bread was baked to perfection and the cheesesteak was tender and seasoned nicely. We can’t wait to come back (we live in Wilmington, DE) and try more things from this great establishment. I am definitely getting the fries and short rib again.

The prices were fair and comparable to other establishments. All of the employees weee working together, making sure everyone had what they needed. I wish there was a 10** rating.

If you area STOP HERE !!!! My husband already left his review. Chicks was so good it deserved two, which is something...
