My party of two went here on a Saturday night around 5:30pm. All but two tables were taken so we were able to quickly be seated. The atmosphere was really nice and the restaurant was well decorated. We were given two cups with a large water container to fill our cups our selves. After filling our cups, we noticed a piece of food stuck to the inside of one of the cups. We mentioned it to the server and she promptly brought out a new cup and another container of water, which was only enough water to fill the two small cups. There are two options for salsa that are complimentary, one that is very spicy and another that is a very watered down salsa verde. The chips were really good, despite the glob of hair we found towards the bottom of the basket. They are thicker chips, like a wonton wrapper, rather than the thin cantina style chips. We got a strawberry margarita on the rocks, which was good although frozen would have been better but their blender was supposedly broken. We ordered a chicken quesadilla and a salad with shrimp. The chicken quesadilla was decent albeit large. The salad with shrimp was edible, though the lettuce tasted like it was just plucked from a field. They initially said it would be a $4 upcharge for the shrimp but it actually was $6 on the bill. They took no money off the bill for the chicken that was taken off the salad. In total, the salad ended up being $20...definitely not worth it. I ended up not eating half of the quesadilla after we found the glob of hair in the chips. We notified the server of the hair and asked the server to take the quesadilla off the check, which she did without an issue. Additionally, they did not refill our water container so I did not have anything to drink for half of our meal. Maybe it was because of us mentioning that there was a piece of food in the cup and the glob of hair in the chips so they were avoiding us, maybe it was that this is their typical service - who knows. I will not be recommending this spot to others. They are way overpriced for what they actually serve and their cleanliness is not up to par with what is expected from a restaurant. Perhaps this was a one off incident for the restaurant given the overwhelmingly positive reviews but I would not go back based on this poor...
Read moreI was excited to go to a New Mexican restarant near washington square. We arrived around 6:20pm. We ordered off Birria burrito and steak enchiladas with a blue Hawaiian and a mango margaritas.
The Birria burrito was good but lacked any sides. It had a tasty dipping sauce. The steak enchilada dish was disappointing. The rice and beans were cold and bland. My steak enchiladas was actually a cheese enchiladas with steak and green sauce spread on top. Nothing else was inside my tortilla. The green sauce was a little too acidic.
Our drinks were very contrasting The blue Hawaiian was strong with two shots of rum. While my margaritas which ended up being a happy hour special tasted flavorful but lacked a kick of tequila.
Our service was great at the start but went downhill as the dinner progressed. We waited 10-15 minutes trying to get our bill with only a few tables with customers. We also did not get the happy hour menu 4-7pm so would could have ordered off of that menu but wasn’t told or provided any HH menus. See my picture for HH menu.
The decor was nice with some Mexican themed murals with some music in the background. The entire restaurant was very clean and well kept. There was a steady stream of to go orders being picked up and even 2-3 police officers picking up take away dinners.
I was extremely disappointed with dinner but I would give DBB&B another chance. Try it out and let me know how...
Read moreI visited Don Barriga for a weekday dinner with a friend. We arrived close to 9PM; the restaurant was pretty quiet since we were past the weeknight dinner rush. The employees brought over some complementary chips and salsa trio shortly after we sat. The green salsa was much better than others I've had; it tasted incredibly fresh and flavorful.
We ordered a few entrees to share: the Birria Tacos, Chicken Quesadilla, and Steak Fajitas. Everything arrived within less than 15 minutes. The Birria Tacos were average; the consommé was quite bland compared to others I've had. The Quesadilla was incredibly fresh and authentic. Instead of being served an average packaged tortilla, the outer layer was a thicker homemade corn dough. It held the filling very well unlike many thinner tortillas that easily rip. The Steak Fajitas were far better than the average. Instead of the typical thick steak strips, this steak was a thinner ribeye. It was also seasoned very well and held flavor even without adding toppings/condiments.
Overall, we really enjoyed our visit here. The food was very good quality; the employees gave us friendly and consistent service. I can definitely see myself coming back to dine...
