I have no major issues with the quality of the food at this restaurant; however the service and overall experience was simply unacceptable. The night started off pleasantly enough as the staff was able to quickly accommodate us with seats at the sushi bar. They brought us menus and water.
After we placed our orders, everything proceeded as expected with the appetizers arriving first. Then the sushi we ordered were brought to us and the first significant issue appeared. Only 2 of the 3 orders arrived and the waitress came over to apologize that she misread her own handwriting. I get it, small hiccups happen all the time but this was awkward to say the least. I sat there without food and my friends sat there with food, not wanting to start eating without me. After another short wait my sushi did arrive and we finally began eating. To their credit, my friend asked for spicy mayo and they were fairly quick at producing the condiment.
The second issue came along with the check. We noticed that the price on some of the items were higher than the numbers listed on the menu. We double checked with a menu to confirm and when we asked about it, the waitress admitted that she forgot to mention that the prices for some items had been increased with no indication. I can think of no justification for not disclosing these changes before we had placed our orders. Informing us after the fact comes off as extremely dishonest. As this was a relatively minor dollar amount, I was even more surprised when they wouldn't simply honor the prices as listed on the menu. At this point I was pretty much done and just wanted to settle the bill and leave. I gave them my card and hoped to simply move on from this unfortunate experience, but then a third issue happened.
After they had charged my card and brought the receipt back for me to sign, the waitress again surprised me by mentioning that they added a 4% surcharge for using a credit card as opposed to cash. Now, I was livid. I would have understood had this information been disclosed prior to completing the transaction, but after all the other events of the night, I am simply in disbelief that they would also without this information.
I can confidently say that I will not be visiting this restaurant again. There are plenty of options for sushi in the city and there's no reason to ever...
Read moreThis place was AWESOME. All of the sushi rolls really blew us away with the creativity, especially the Half and Half Tuna Maki roll. Some of the rolls actually had cooked fish, which was a bit different but you could really taste the freshness of the dishes - from the cooked rice down to the cilantro. If you want a quiet BYOB sushi place with top notch service in the Old City area, this is a great place to visit. Don't forget to round it out with some red bean mochi ice cream.
Also, in reference to some of the other posts - I didn't find it overpriced at all. Each roll cost just as much as I would pay at any other sushi spot...
Read moreThe food was delicious for what it was, but it was not worth the price that was charged. Additionally, the quantity of food was too little. And to add on top of that, the quality was mediocre at most. They gathered the orders and handed them out but there was no checking in on us, asking about the food, no refills of the smallish cups of water, just staring from the bar they make the food behind. When we tried to reflect the feelings on the service through the tip, they stopped us and said that more should be included for tip. Head somewhere else for sushi, there's dozens of...
