10/10 WOULD NOT RECOMMEND DINING HERE. I was beyond excited to try out Tuna Bar and had I known I would have the experience I did last night, it would have been taken off my “To Try” list immediately. To be clear, my server is the only reason why I am giving this place two stars instead of the one singular star it deserves.
I got raw oysters as a first course and when they got to the table, they were warm.. not room temp, WARM. Which is not what anyone expected at a seafood bar. Talk about setting the vibe for the rest of the night. Do not even bother selecting a special occasion when placing your reservation on open table because they WILL NOT CARE. I am extremely upset that I told them I wanted a dessert for a birthday celebration and I had to tell them more than once. Management is extremely UNPROFESSIONAL in every way possible. I was profiled for the clothing I was wearing, which was suitable for a dinner celebration. I feel UNETHICALLY violated knowing the personal information used to make a reservation was also illegally used to research me. I left a negative review upon leaving yesterday and then deleted the review this morning because I felt my safety was comprised seeing as I was contacted by a friend and instructed to remove the initial review. After thinking about how many other people’s privacy was violated and how many negative reviews were forced to be taken down, I decided to post the review again. This information should be more than enough to deter people from...
Read moreI really wanted to like Tuna Bar and was looking forward to our Valentine's Day dinner reservation. After making the reservation and realizing we weren't able to preview the prix fixe menu, I decided to contact the restaurant since my boyfriend has a shellfish allergy and this can often be a problem with sushi. I called, no answer. So I messaged them via Facebook. I explained his allergy and asked if this would be issue with the menu and their exact response was "...confirmed with management and there will be no shellfish on tonight's menu..." (See pic)
Great, so we went. As soon as we sat down and looked at the menu we realized almost half of it included shrimp aka SHELLFISH (see V-day menu pic). Now maybe they were unaware that shrimp is shellfish? Or maybe they were just too lazy to actually check when I inquired, but either way, it's pretty inexcusable to ignore someone's food allergies and risk a health scare. What if we had asked if a dish included shellfish and my boyfriend had eaten it due to their ignorance? We would have ended up at the hospital.
I'm giving three stars because our waiter did his best to accommodate us once we were already seated and expecting a decent meal. The sushi roll that he subbed for the 6th course (didn't have a name, his creation) was pretty quality and we did really enjoy it. I just can't get past the staff's ignorance regarding food allergies and a $210 dinner with drinks that we didn't really...
Read moreTuna Bar is my favorite sushi I have had in all of Philly, dunking on other sushi heavyweights like Double Knot and Royal Sushi.
I was initially skeptical upon entering, as the interior is hella contemporary and it's just kinda sceney in here. Like are we trying to be a trendy hotel bar or are we here to slang good sushi?
My doubt was fed to the canvas when our feast began to roll in. All in all, we got the creamy rock shrimp, brussel sprouts, crispy rice spicy tuna, wagyu spring rolls, a yellowtail roll, a spicy salmon roll, the fishtown roll, and a liberty roll.
Everything was fantastic and the quality of fish was top notch. The rock shrimp and wagyu spring rolls were the standouts until the Liberty Roll came and flipped the game on its head. The Liberty Roll came to PLAY.
My taste buds had never experienced anything like it: Spicy crab & cucumber topped with torched salmon, spicy aioli, and some rice pearls. It melted in your mouth. It made you feel things you hadn’t felt in years..
After torching everything, we were full af but I left it up to God and asked the waiter if they had any mochi for dessert, because my soul is incapable of passing up on good mochi.
"Of course!" He responded. GOD STEPPED IN! They had green tea, strawberry, and vanilla and we got one of each and cleaned the plate. Mochi all-stars.
