Absolutely wonderful!
We really enjoyed this place. It looks like a little hole in the wall, but the food is fantastic. We have been there twice and the food is delicious. Their pita comes out hot and soft. I couldn’t get enough lol. The hummus was fresh. It was not too salty or bland. I got the combo platter to try a little bit of everything and it’s worth it. The food was hot, had great flavor, large portions and presentation was nice too. I had to take most of it home because I sowed on the pita and hummus lol. The food ingredients are fresh and so colorful! The veggies on your platter always comes out soft and seasoned beautifully. It’s nice to be able to eat your food and while everything tastes differently, it compliments each other. The lentil and egg lemon soup (sounds funny, I know) are amazing. The egg lemon soup is my favorite. It’s very savory with a small kick of sour from the lemon. It’s hard to really describe this flavor. It’s a must try!! Afterwards, order the rice pudding. I’ve had to eat one there and order one to take home with me lol. It’s thick, creamy, full of flavor and it hits the spot after a big dinner. For parking, there is street parking or a paid parking lot nearby. We parked a few blocks out because we wanted to walk around and see some of the shops. I HIGHLY recommend this place for food. It’s a great, cozy spot for a lunch with friends or a date night dinner. If you have a large party, such as 6-8 people, I’d call ahead to make sure they have enough space. We had a party of 5 going for dinner in the middle of the week and was able to be seated immediately. So very happy with this place!!! We will be coming back every time we stop...
Read moreRecently had dinner here with a party of 5 of us. When we get to Philly, we like to take in some good, ethnic food, and we enjoy Greek food, so wanted to try this place based upon some reviews on Google. The food was a mixed bag. We had a sampler appetizer plate (a whole lot of different dips/spreads to be eaten with pita bread, and generally, we liked most everything on the platter (save the beets), so things started out really well. But when the dinner plates came, that's when it became disappointing. I had a combo with souvlaki & gyros, which was accompanies by rice and turli. The souvlaki was okay, but nothing flavorful. The gyros tasted highly processed, and not very flavorful at all. Most of us at the table had the gyros, and we were just not impressed. One person in our group had the spanakopita (spinach pie) and another had vegan stuffed tomatoes (originally ordered stuffed peppers, but they were out, so they offered to substitute stuffed tomatoes). Both turned out to be mediocre dishes, according to those who ordered them. Not bad tasting, but nothing that makes you want to come back. The service was excellent. Our waitress was very friendly, and took care of us, refilling beverages quickly, etc.... The place itself is kind of a cool little restaurant. They have take out service out front on South Street, but if you walk in through the side door, you get to walk by the kitchen, which gives you plenty of wonderful aromas, and gets your hopes up for a great meal. Walking to the back, you enter a very small dining area, which is cozy and inviting. If they worked a little on improving the food here, this would be a great little...
Read more8/18/24… Have been going to South Street Souvlaki for many, many years. My opinion, the best baba ganoush, the best gyros, the best hummus and the best platters. What can I say, just consistently delicious! Thank you for not changing your consistently delicious food and service!
10/25/22...Stopped for a take out order and after so many years, I still think they make the best gyros, baba ganouch, and spanakopita. Thank you! Delicious!
1/25/22...did a take out order and their food is still very good from their gyros to their sides of orzo, Greek salad, baba ganoush, spanakopita, awesome! Consistently good.
In my opinion, I can't imagine a gyro made better than here. They use the best pita, the meat is sliced right in front of you and well it's just the best gyro. They do have other excellent food. Get the gyro, you will be glad you did. Recently dined in and they make the best baba ganosh and their calamari and baked chicken and their pork chops all so very good as well as their pastitsio...and Donna, who served us, so very nice. Love their...
