Nothing like the Tempe location - The menu at this location is much simpler, which makes sense for the downtown lunch rush, but was completely missing vegetarian options so I decided to go for some fish. I was unsure of the difference between Jun and Tempura so I asked to cashier. Her response was.... odd - "they are the same thing". Knowing this didn't make sense, I decided to try the Jun because I hadn't tried it there before. All of the other interactions with staff were strange too - the gal calling out orders barely called a name and then left things piled up on the counter. She looked at me as though I was completely insane for asking for chop sticks and hot sauce and then had trouble finding them.
The Fish Jun and Shrimp Tempura were both.... basic. The Fish Jun was an incredibly small portion, kind of soggy, and mostly flavorless. The shrimp tempura wasn't crunchy either. My co-workers ordered meat dishes and they looked amazing. Giant portions, they smelled wonderful, and they had nothing to say but good things.
Since I overpaid for tiny portions and sub par food, and had an awkward experience with staff, I'm going with two stars. The place has potential and I hope they work out these issues.
Update - I decided to give it another try and had the garlic shrimp the other day for lunch. The shrimp were quite good, flavorful, and generously portioned. My only complaint is that they were served with the full shell on them, making it very difficult to eat with plastic cutlery.
The service this time still felt new and awkward,, but I remain optimistic that they will adapt soon. There were noticable changes since my last visit even though very little...
Read moreAs soon as I walked in the manager at the front counter was reprimanding an employee in front of myself and customers dining at the restaurant. This is very unprofessional. It's humiliating for the employee. Managers should always reprimand in private. Reprimanding in public creates an unpleasant dining experience. So after the manager finished reprimanding her employee, I reprimanded her inappropriate actions. I explained that it's humiliating for the employee, unpleasant for me, and unpleasant for those who were at the restaurant dining. She was very unhappy that I did this. Probably a very similar feeling that her employee felt. Humiliation. This manager also decided to leave me a bad review after I picked up an order (I'm a delivery driver). This tells me she learned nothing and decided to retaliate instead. Which is also unacceptable. Always, always, always reprimand away from customers and other employees. It's professionalism. Also, the employee the manager reprimanded deserves an apology. It's the right...
Read moreI decided to eat lunch here today since I was in the area. When I step into the restaurant, there were new faces in the register. The guy was taking orders and he was very rude to the customers. When it was my turn, I wanted to order Paradise Special #1, but he said today is "No Grill Day". I was bit confused. They were on limited menu today, so I chicken katsu. After I place my ordered, I saw the front guy getting mad at the cashier and he seems like he didn't know how to use the register. While I was waiting for my food, he was giving away free drinks to some of the customers. So I guess he was giving free drinks to the customers that he like. When I started to eat my plate, the food tasted bad. It was not like before. The macaroni salad was bland and the portions got so small. Someone told me that it's under new management. I guess I won't be returning to this restaurant anymore. I really miss...
