I’ve been eating here since 2019 when I moved back to Phx to treat leukemia at Mayo. Back in Dec I had a short conversation with a server while eating at the counter. He was chatting with a few others at the counter and I noticed he looked very fit. We discussed that he went to the gym 3x a week and he told me he was 22. As a 71 yo man I told him to add aerobics or running as he had a beer belly, we called it in my day. I said take it from someone older than your grandfather as good advice for a long and healthy life. When I finished and left a young lady followed me out to discuss an interaction I had with one of her staff. Once we established she was talking about a conversation I recounted what I said and what my point was. She said she was going to ask me to not return to her restaurant any more. But after we talked she said it was ok. Yesterday I was just finished ordering my breakfast at the bar and went to the bathroom. When I returned a large mid 30’s guy with both arms full sleeve tattoos came and asked me to leave. I’m 165 and 6’ now 72. When I realized he wasn’t joking I asked him why what was the issue. He told me I knew and not to come back. I noticed both the young man and the lady from before were working as I left. This is a perfect example of the woke bs culture that has taken over millennials and gen Z in the U.S. I am glad I returned to my home in Costa Rica today. While I will miss the few girls that work behind the counter I will not miss their childish managers and the young waiter who could only feel hurt when given good advice from an old man. Now at 72 I have a son of 13 who I’ve raised alone in Costa Rica and I will say he, like me, feels sorry for the woke nonsense that has consumed the U.S. I cannot recommend this place to anyone who values truth and honestly over sensitivity and wokeness. Updated today 5/4/25. I found myself in Phx again for a medical visit to Mayo. Stopped in for breakfast and ignoring owners invitation to return Mario Frongillo, his card says the Maverick, try to his name said I could not be served and didn’t cat what the owner said. Interesting where the pays help override the owners instructions. I can’t say I’m surprised as often when it’s about people wanting to win they lose sight of things. Again he refused to explain why telling me he told me part time. I reminded him that he only told me I knew why. And there you have it. Sad but honestly there are many great choices for breakfast and it makes no sense to waste time and money on a place run by nut jobs on...
Read moreUnique. I order the Ham Benedict III, husband ordered the Spuds Deluxe and added mushrooms, our two friends each ordered the Snooze Classic. I don’t know if it is just regional, but, to me the food was very bland without the spice. The hollandaise sauce is “homemade” and had a bite like it was seasoned with cayenne pepper - without the sauce, the English muffin, ham and egg had very little to get excited about. An egg McMuffin would have more flavor. I ordered the hash browns crispy with onions added. They came out crispy - thankfully. My husband said husband spuds also lacked flavor and could not stand alone without spicy or hot seasoning. Our friends both ordered hash browns with their meals but their hash brown were more like little cakes that were cooked in little ramekins. They said the inside were mushy but the outsides were crispy - one liked, the other did not.
I would not say it is a bad restaurant in any way; but, what we had could not stand alone without throwing a lot of spice into the mix. I order certain things because I like the taste of my food, not necessarily the condiments or spices that are added.
On a side note, PSA - they served a ketchup (catsup) brand that was completely new to me - not unusual considering different geographical area for me. Anyway, when we travel with these particular friends, we are always aware to watch for certain ingredients because the female half has food allergies- like cannot breathe, call a squad…. Anyway, I found it interesting, the ketchup had green peppers listed as an ingredient. We always ask about the food being served, but never thought to read the ingredients on the condiment container. So, if you are allergic to a specific food item, check all ingredients - whenever possible. If she had consumed that ketchup, there goes vacation, we would have been in the ER Next time I think I will try French toast or pancakes - something that ought to have real...
