My friend told me about this place and I was pretty excited that you can serve your own beer but once I got there I don't really think it's all that hyped up to be. First of all there's not a great parking in that area so we drove around for at least 15 minutes in circles waiting for a parking spot to open up and when we did it was blocks away so plan ahead for parking. It looks like a cute place because it is inside a little neighborhood and it's next to all these historical old houses so I do like the area. We walk in and there's nobody there to greet us we find the table and again nobody greets us until we figure out that we have to get up and go to the counter to pay for a glass or whatever play for a wristband I guess it was or a card it's a. Actually now I remember they give you a fob. You pay up front and then you can just go and serve your own beer but I mean there's nothing too exciting about that except that maybe if you want to try a bunch of beers and you don't want to bother the bartender to serve a bunch of different beers for you it's fine but I mean I don't know we had about two rounds and then we paid or we cashed out or whatever you have to do there. As far as I can remember they don't have food or anything or at least we didn't order anything. But all in all I'm not sure if I'll come back it just wasn't all that cracked up to be sorry concept sounds good on paper but now I know why this concept isn't more popular anywhere else. It's not conducive to customer service. The cool thing is they do have a big variety of beers they even have local beers from Tucson they have Moto Sonora which is my favorite right now and their favorite beer...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I were excited to try this place for our friend’s celebration and trivia night. We peeked at the menu in advance and were delightfully surprised at the array of options accompanied by enticing photos. Unfortunately, from when we arrived, the experience was less than stellar. We initially went up the desk (there’s 1 desk and everyone is expected to form a line no matter if they are getting a drink or food or asking a question) and the guy manning it was quite unhelpful in conveying details about trivia (seemed relatively unaware), how to order food or where we should sit. When we went back up to order food after finding the QR code menus ourselves on little cards at each table, he advised that they were out of flatbread pizzas, wings, and had no spicy salsa for the chips (only pico de gallo). My boyfriend was dismayed and opted to not eat. I ordered a Greek salad with chicken, which arrived not too long after ordering. It was dry (needed more dressing), the chicken was chopped up like taco meat in a tiny bowl on the side, and there was wayyy too much feta, overpowering everything else. There was no water available and I wasn’t about to wait in the very long line to ask how we could get some. They were also out of nearly every non-alcoholic drink you could get although the tv was advertising topo chico...
Read moreI got very strong "you're not welcome" vibes from some of the staff when I went last night. It's really a shame too because it's such a cool looking place. I could sense that they may have had some bad experiences with some guests that look like me.
One of the service staff members acted nervous when she was explaining that they have to hold a debit card in order to open the tab. I kept assuring her that it was fine and that I understood, but she felt the need to explain more in very remedial terms as if I was going to be upset or couldn't understand English. The other staff member there ignored me twice while walking by, granted his mother was there visiting and that is very important, I just wanted to ask a question about seating.
I remained calm and didn't let on that the unwelcoming vibe was felt loud and clear. I cashed my tab and still tipped the service staff member well although I could sense that she was sure she wasn't getting a tip.
15 years in the restaurant and bar industry and I am very aware of the stereotypes are about black folks being unmanageable and not tipping service staff. It's unfortunate that this is how I was made to feel but it is not uncommon for me.
The concept and the beer was...
