UPDATE: I'm sad to say this I have been sick to my stomach, all night running to the bathroom. I didn't eat anything else after eating this meal. I really did want to love this. I just wouldn't eat here if you have celiac disease unless having a plain burger patty. I'm pretty sick tonight. But the staff was really great trying to make things right from the other night. True Food Kitchen went above and beyond to remedy the mistake that actually the 3rd party delivery company (that happened to be door dash) made. Their food is good - we did delivery so I can't speak to atmosphere, but my friends and family really like it. I want to say the staff is wonderful and the manager I talked to was awesome. It's really worth a try. My stomach does hurt however after eating it - pretty badly actually, but that's probably on me because I have celiac and it's hard to eat out and guarantee that there isn't cross-contamination. - I ordered something that probably was easier to have cross contact. But my son also has gluten issues just like me and he ordered a plain burger patty and he had no problems. The food is really good though. And I truly appreciate the kindness of the staff and the efforts to go above and beyond to make our experience the day before right.
UPDATE: On 4/10/25, we went there for lunch. We ordered a pepperoni pizza, which was very good. We also order the edamama dumplings which were, without exaggeration, the WORST thing we've ever eaten at this restaurant. The dough was slimy and totally overcooked and the filling was bland and tasteless. It was inedible. We told the server, who didn't really seem to care. Classy restaurants, when they see 90% of the dish is uneaten and the customer complains about how bad the dish was would normally take it off the bill. Not here - just because it's awful and overcooked doesn't mean you don't have to pay for it. Sadly, this is now off my lunch rotation.
PREVIOUS REVIEW:We went for lunch so, stupidly, we looked at the lunch menu online. My companion decided on the IDAHO RAINBOW TROUT with quinoa, artichoke, roasted red pepper, lemon oregano vinaigrette and I decided on the LASAGNA BOLOGNESE with fennel chicken sausage, mushroom, organic spinach, ricotta, basil.
We arrived at 12:30 on a Saturday and neither of these items were on the menu. Apparently, unbeknownst to the website developers, they have a special limited brunch menu on Saturdays and Sundays and don’t offer the advertised menu.
So, we had to pivot. My companion had the ANCIENT GRAINS BOWL (miso sesame glazed sweet potato, charred onion, snap pea, portobello, avocado, organic grains, cilantro & pumpkin seed pesto, hemp seed, turmeric) and I had NOT YOUR MAMA’S MEATLOAF (Verde Farms grass-fed organic beef, herb roasted fingerling potato, honey roasted carrot, mushroom jus, microgreens). I love my mama’s meatloaf and, as advertised, this was not hers. Sorry mom – this is better. No gross ketchup glaze – they made an absolutely delicious mushroom jus. The potatoes were old tasting (like they were roasted several days ago), but the carrots were well cooked and delicious. My companion was equally pleased with her meal.
I guess the deception with the menu led to a couple...
Read moreDETAIL EDIT AT THE BOTTOM I’m not sure what’s happening with True Food Kitchen in Arizona, but the customer service is seriously lacking. I’ve never had an issue at their California locations—ever.
I paid cash for my meal, and my change should have included dollars and 7 cents. When I asked about the missing 7 cents, the waitress casually told me that they “either round up or round down” without ever informing me beforehand. Had I known, I could have paid with a debit card.
By definition, this is steel..ing—taking something that does not belong to you without consent. At best, it’s dishonest business practice. A restaurant does not have the right to decide to keep a customer’s payment without informing them first. I DID NOT CONSENT!!!
That’s not how transactions work, and it’s completely unethical.
When I pointed this out, a busboy walked by, slammed a dollar bill on the table, tapped it, and said, "Here you go." The waitress looked shocked, and so was I. This isn’t how a reputable business should operate.
This isn’t about 7 cents—it’s about consent and principle. I still left a 20% tip, because I value service—but I also value transparency and integrity.
And before the owner or manager replies with the usual "We’re so sorry, this is not our standard"—save it. The inconsistency in food quality, portion sizes, and serving cold dishes speaks for itself. This isn’t the first issue, and I’m not interested in excuses.
Luckily, True Food Kitchen isn’t the only restaurant in town offering food without seed oils. I’ll take my business elsewhere as I continue to use the LOUDEST voice WE have as consumers, OUR WALLETS.
EDIT: After my review, the restaurant responded claiming I was aggressive and raised my voice. That is not true. I expressed my concern about their rounding policy firmly but respectfully. I left a TWENTY percent tip. It's disappointing when businesses deflect from valid concerns rather than taking real...
