I went for lunch to go. Chile Relleno and Taco lunch combo. When I sat down to it, it was in two boxes....one with guacamole salad and the taco. The other with the beans and the so-called Chile Relleno. The taco was greasy but I forgave it since I had white cheese and guacamole to put on it. I opened up the Chile Relleno and had to go digging through the beans and cheese to locate what finally turned out to be a thumbsized piece of a Chile. Nothing done to it that I could tell.. Just lying in the beans and cheese. I was so incensed I was ready to March right back,...but I have 20 to 30 minutes for lunch and it would have made me late. Salsa is made with canned tomatoes that TASTE canned. At least I had the taco and beans. Never consider going there again for Any reason. Update: I did go back to talk to the owner or manager. I explained that the chile was no bigger than half a jalapeno. He asked if I had ever been there before. He said this was how they made the chile rellenos. In whose book is THAT an entree. One bite? The size of a thumb or a teaspoon? No apologies, no nothing. Now I have been eating Mexican food since 1974. I lived in Arizona for 24 years and Calif for four. I traveled the whole United States for eight years and I eat two types of food almost daily. Mexican and Chinese. My best friend's husband is Mexican. I was sort of adopted by a Mexican restaurant owner in AZ and was regularly fed homemade tamales. Year round. My favorite Mexican dish is Chile Relleno. Do I know what I am talking about? Yes. Trust me you don't want this type of dishonesty in a restaurant. Basically today I had beans and cheese and a greasy taco instead of a Chile Relleno combo. And to act like I'm the one who doesn't know what to expect of that dish.... This is not how good restaurants are run.

This was my very first time eating dinner or any meal here at El Potro. I first walked in and was a bit surprised that it looked bigger on the outside but quickly realized it was just as big on the inside as I was escorted to my table. My server Laura quickly greeted me and took my drink order after serving me the complimentary chips n salsa, which by the waywas about the same size and quantity as you would get with their competitors. I ordered a delicious 😋 22oz Pineapple Margarita which was their special promotional drink at the time. Thought it was very professional of Laura to card me for ordering alcohol, kudos to her. FOH had some minor issues and come to find out that they had a rookie or two staffed for the dinner shift. That to me kinda took away from the overall experience but nothing to really cry about since it didn't directly effect my personal experience. I ordered their Indiana Burrito and it was damn good. A pollo, asada y bean stuffed burrito topped with chorizo, camarron, liquid queso y pineapple slices. After completing my entire meal, drink and the majority of my chips, I paid, left Laura a well deserved tip and drove home. I'll definitely be eating more meals here at El Potro when my mood strikes for Mexican Cuisine.

I visited today and ordered their Margarona. The menu shows it with a full Corona, but what I received was a smaller Coronita instead. That’s a noticeable difference in both size and alcohol content, yet nowhere was it explained that smaller drinks come with smaller bottles. This feels misleading, especially since the main draw of the drink is the Corona itself. On top of that, the presentation wasn’t consistent with the menu image. Instead of a clean, frozen margarita with the bottle inverted, I got a clip holding the bottle and a floating rubber duck. More gimmicky than the sleek drink advertised. Another thing to note: the Google menu shows prices like $4.99 entrées and $6.49 lunch specials, which are clearly outdated and not what you’ll pay in 2025. That can be confusing for new customers who expect those deals. Overall, the food and drinks may be fine, but the way things are advertised versus what you actually get leaves the wrong impression. Transparency would go a long way — list whether it’s a Coronita or Corona, and update the online menu to reflect real prices.

Ok y'all, I live in Texas, was in town to visit my sick dad this past week and had the opportunity to check this place out. Wow y'all. Some of the best Tex Mex I have had. Full stop. The rice and beans are just excellent. The salsa is amazing, and the chips were light with the perfect bit of salt. And y'all, please don't even get me started on the Queso. I can say that El Potro is truly an excellent choice. Had the spicy chimmi (on special for like $9). I liked it so much that the next day when my wife got into Plainfield, I told her that I had a new place to take her. I wanted to try more of the Mexican side of this TexMex as to compare it to what I get at home. So I ordered a tamale, chili relleno, rice and beans while my wife had the Acapulco. Damn y'all. Homemade tamale's are easy to get in Texas, and a staple. These were no different. So many places outside Texas, and some inside Texas, have these little somewhat anemic looking corn straws with little resemblance of any meat....not here. The tamale was Texas sized. Like they all should be and very typical of homemade. Every thing was excellent....again! Attention to detail is what sets this place apart.Large portions and You know when the small things are done very, very well, i.e., rice, beans, chips and salsa, the rest of the menu falls right in line. To top it off, the service I got both days, was top notch. Full knowledge of the menu and able to answer any questions without hesitation. The menu is vast and I didn't see immediately see what I wanted on the menu. So I just told the server what I wanted and our server put it together and I was charged right at the same price as other combinations. Had conversations with both servers and they were so nice and a pleasure to talk to. I really hope y'all enjoy El Potro and stop in for a bite. It will be the last time you ever have to search for good TexMex. You will know where it is. Right there on west 40 just inside Plainfield from Indy. A big thanks to the servers there at El Potro. We really enjoyed eating and talking with y'all and look forward to our next...
