They pick and choose who they give good service to. We walked in, restaurant wasn't even half full and we had to wait for 3 or 4 mins before someone came to help us. While we waited the staff just stared at me and my girlfriend. Every other couple that came in after was immediately seated. We got dirty looks from the customers and some of the staff as well. I don't want to say they were racist but it seemed like that based on how awful the service was. (My significant other is black) We had a similar experience last time, having to wait multiple minutes to get seated in an empty restaurant while the staff looked at us in a way that made both of us quite uncomfortable. Our server in both cases was this red headed woman who did a great job though both times. She was a little slow the first time but she was polite and the second time around seemed to be doing more work than the rest of the staff combined. The tall blonde girl that worked with there couldn't seem to get her eyes off of my girlfriend either. She also was very eager to greet the couple that came in after us whereas before she stood idly while my girlfriend and I waited to be seated in, again, a restaurant that had hardly anyone in it. Food was decent but the service was weird. Even when we got seated we were asked if someone had already helped us even though the guy asking saw us waiting there the whole time. I have no clue what they had against us. I just wanted to sit down and enjoy some pizza, I don't need people supervising myself and my girlfriend when I do it. I won't be visiting this location again regardless of whatever explanation is given to me. Even if it's all coincidence the service was still horrible for the most part. I didn't witness these deficiencies when they served other customers though which is why it seems weird.
EDIT: Forgot to mention they were also walking past us the whole time while we waited. It was excruciatingly...
Read moreThere’s something about Grimaldi’s that makes you feel like you’ve stepped into the kind of East Coast pizzeria where folding your slice is a sign of respect and flavor.
We came in for the Slices ASAP lunch special and left full, happy, and humming Sinatra. The “giant” slice wasn’t as giant as I imagined, but it was surprisingly filling, thin, coal-fired, and kissed with just the right amount of char on the crust. I went classic with pepperoni and added roasted red peppers. The oil was real (as it should be), but fold your slice and let it drip, it's all part of the experience.
The Caesar salad was fresh, chilled, and dressed in just the right amount of creamy, tangy dressing. The parmesan shavings were generous, and I appreciated that they didn’t over-saturate the greens.
The vibe? Spotless dining area, red-checkered tablecloths, good music, and fantastic service. Our server was quick, kind, and attentive without hovering. The whole place reminded me of my years in Staten Island, surrounded by true Italian charm, where even mobsters knew a good slice when they tasted one.
Dessert sealed the deal. We tried the trio sampler, New York cheesecake, tiramisu, and a cannoli. Each one held its own, but the tiramisu stole the spotlight. If you're a tiramisu lover like me, skip the sampler and go all in. You’ll only be disappointed by how small the trio portion is. We also had the Oreo cheesecake, and it hit the sweet tooth just right, creamy, rich, and playful without being too heavy.
Grimaldi’s is exactly what it claims to be: a little slice of old-school New York tucked into Frisco, Texas. It's not trying too hard, it just knows who it is. And I respect that.

Read moreWe just learned about this Plano location a couple of weeks ago, and finally had a chance to visit for dinner tonight. I'm glad we didn't read the reviews beforehand, because we were expecting the same great food and service as we've been getting for years from the Allen location... and we weren't disappointed!
We were a bit surprised that the place wasn't full, but thought maybe it was just a chilly weeknight at a new location. But it was good to be greeted and seated immediately. That's one issue with the Allen location: those who are waiting create a bottleneck at the entrance, or seemed forced to wait outside. The ambiance in Plano is nice too... a bit lighter and brighter than other locations we've visited.
Our server, Brooklyn, greeted us immediately and with a smile. She took our drink and appetizer orders, both of which were delivered to the table in minutes. The Caesar salad was fresh and enough to share. Our pizza arrived right on time, delivered by the manager who also welcomed us and chatted a few minutes.
The ultimate review comes down to the pizza. We were happy that our expectations were met - the pizza was hot, tasty and just the right balance of sauce and toppings. The crust was good as normal.
Brooklyn returned to check on us several times during the meal, as well as her other tables in our area. Our meal was topped off with tiramisu to-go, which was also good as usual.
It seems that others may have had less-than-desirable experiences here... I'm hoping that those were just new-team growing pains. We love our dinners at the Allen location but happy to have a Grimaldi's closer to home, where we look forward to...
