Tried it three times. I know its new... and the effort to abate the loud ambient nioses are why they get a second star. Might try it again in a year, but I would have to be convinced by the group to go again. I'd actually be pretty surprised if they make it much more than a year. That has to require a drastic change? The space is super awkward. The entry is right by the start of the bar. Which means you have to fumble throuhg a narrow corridor to get to any open space. So if there are people sitting and standing at the bar its a tight fit. Its only made worse by the table of food and knicknacks for sale in front of the windows for some reason.
That could be easily overlooked... but the staff is woefully inept at making anything not on the menu. I asked for two wiskey old fashoined sweet, glass of wine. Had to repeat that order 3 times. Not even very busy... Get the bill and it was 48 dollars. lol. The 1/3 full old fashioned in the picture was 18 dollars. In Port. For an old fashioned. In a plastic cup. Like a responsible adult, I asked whats up with that... I got "we could remake it" - with the rail that I asked for the first time, the second, and the third time I was asked to repeat the simple 3 drink order. Apparently someone chose Central Standard for my rail... which is great, fine, support the local, all about it. I have several of their retail 40 dollar bottles at home. Next time I'll just buy the whole bottle instead of two drinks. Then I'll put that in a plastic cup.
We visited several bars in Port over Fish Day(s). None of the tabs were half that much for 3 drinks. For 5 drinks even. This bar is just somehow dark, awkward, very expensive, still loud, and you have to make sure you know how to make your drink - because no one there will. The building designer just chose to have the balcony be an after thought to the unit the bar uses. Its all a very strange space. Any of the area dives will impress over this, minus the view. But the harbor is large, and near many other bars that will sell you an as good or better old fashioned for less than half the price. Not sure why anyone goes back. Kinda burned my bridge. lol, I'm actually still kind of...

Downtown Port Washington just keeps getting better — and Cavelier Wine Bar is the crown jewel I didn’t know I was missing! Tucked into the heart of downtown, this spot has been quietly perfecting its vibe for just over a year, and now that I’ve discovered it, I can’t stop raving.
I stopped in during the morning and was instantly wrapped in the kind of ambiance that makes you exhale and smile. Cavelier’s warm industrial charm with its deep green and gold accents, black industrial ceiling, and just the right lighting, strikes the perfect balance between cozy and refined. It’s equal parts moody and magical, like your favorite indie movie set in a design magazine.
Their morning coffee game? On point. The signature coffee beverages are thoughtfully crafted, delicious, and served with genuine warmth by a staff that clearly loves being there. Friendly, welcoming, and attentive. The team sets the tone and makes you feel like you’ve found your new favorite haunt.
While I didn’t get to sample the wine, cocktails, or Hill Valley cheeses this time around (that’ll be my next visit, count on it!), I have no doubt that their evening offerings live up to the same thoughtful quality. The live music lineup is just another reason I’ll be returning soon. This place isn’t just a wine bar, it’s an experience waiting to be had.
Whether you're starting your day with coffee or planning your next night out, Cavelier Wine Bar is a beautiful, cozy, and vibrant place you’ll want to keep...
Read moreGreat little wine bar on the Lake Michigan shoreline, overlooking the harbor! The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, and the drinks were fantastic! Took a ride up after Summerfest and we will definitely be returning! There are cozy seating areas inside and a spacious deck for outdoor seating. Great for a date or a visit with friends. There is a good selection of reasonably priced and generously portioned cheese curds and cheese wedges available to snack on with your drinks. There are also crackers, pretzels, chocolate-covered potato chips, and mixed nut options. We tried the red port wedge and the crackers found next to the cheese case, and it was a terrific addition to our delicious cocktails! We had the Razzmataz and On Deck cocktails - both very flavorful and refreshing! We followed up with the spiced peach sangria which was also very good! The bathrooms are very clean ( always a good sign) and super cute. This is an hour and 20 minute drive from home, but we will definitely be returning! I highly recommend...
