Heroes American Cafe — Restaurant in Portland

On 8/4 I visited the Grants Pass, OR Heroes Café. It was the best sandwich shop experience I've had in decades. Two days later, the cravings for more had me seated at the SW Park Ave. location in Portland, OR. I ordered the NY Giant Pastrami Sub (added lettuce and extra pickles). I was blown away by the flavor of this sub - twice over now. I was worried that the experience I had in Grants Pass might not be replicate. Portland nailed it. The pastrami at both locations was sliced thin, and generously served up with the roll barely able to contain the meat as it spilled out! The sandwich came with red onions, dill pickle relish (helz ya), swiss cheese - melted perfectly, and just a hint of dijon mustard on a seasoned hoagie roll that melted in my mouth. Soooo good. I also order some fries - delicious... golden brown and lightly seasoned with some salt. Perfection!

Shout out to Michael, my bartender and order taker in Portland. Outstanding service. Juggled the orders that were coming in and going out like a pro.

Next up, I'm will definitely return to try your other menu items. In the meantime, its gonna be difficult to resist ordering another pastrami, but I'm up for the challange. Thanks for...

During my recent trip to Portland from the UK, my friend and I had the pleasure of eating at Heroes American Café, and I must say it was a standout experience!

From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with a warm welcome that immediately made us feel at home. The ambiance of the café was cozy and inviting, with a charming décor that added to the overall experience.

But what truly made our visit exceptional was the outstanding service we received. Our waiter was not only incredibly friendly but also went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. He took the time to chat with us about Portland and even gave us some local tips. What really stood out was his honesty and integrity—when we accidentally over-tipped, he pointed it out to us and adjusted the bill accordingly. It’s rare to see such genuine and thoughtful service, and it certainly made a positive impression!

Overall, Heroes American Café exceeded all our expectations. The combination of great service, excellent food, and a genuinely friendly atmosphere.

I eat at this place once a week or more. The food is fabulous! I especially enjoy their Reuben with tots, but their fish tacos are also to die for! I've had several of their burgers too, which were fantastic as well. For dessert, nothing beats their homemade brownies a la mode with chocolate-sauce drizzle. They've got an excellent beer selection on tap as well -- Wild Ride Hippy Haza IPA has been my favorite, with Brown's Pallet Jack or Left Hand's Dark Milk Stout close behind, but they've got all the other favorites too like Fort George Vortex, etc., along with a full bar. The staff are always friendly and attentive with multiple big screens in the background for a lively yet warm atmosphere. When so many eating establishments are closing all over Downtown Portland, Heroe's Cafe is truly worthy of our support. I'm calling for all hands on deck to frequent this excellent pub and keep it going strong. I would be so bummed if they were forced to close up shop because folks were not aware of this gem on the corner of SW Park and SW Clay. Hope to see you...
