This is a very nice spot with nice inviting decor. The prices are reasonable and the pastries I had were excellent. The coffee was good. Location and milieu are excellent. However I must make an observation which may or may not be helpful to the owners depending on how they take it. I was enjoying the atmosphere and pastry and decor but my enjoyment was disrupted by very loud unpleasant music they played. Also though the employees/owners were courteous there was a lot of drama behind the counter which delayed service and made a somewhat unprofessional impression. With all the purported gourmet cafes around town, including Stumptown and Barista nearby, prices seem to average around $3-$4 for most drinks, even just coffee and espresso. Yet here at Lotus & Bean, a french press is just $2.50, a cup of espresso just over $2, and specialty drinks around $3. I've had better quality drinks, but not at this value. The coffee is good and they have a great selection of milks and sweetners including honey. The also have monkey cookie cookies which are some of the best cookies I've ever had. If you're in line wondering whether or not to buy the bag of tiny cookies, they're more than worth the $3. The coffee prices are good too, my only objection is that they're sandwiches are...
