One of the best Middle-Eastern places to eat in town! The first time I stopped by I wasn’t expecting much but I was really surprised with how authentic and good their food is! I’m Egyptian myself and it has been almost impossible to find authentic, delicious Egyptian food in Portland until I tried AlMasry. The food is delicious with the right spice amount, the portions are generous and the prices are very affordable. I tried their Gyros, Saj and plates and I especially love the lamb + beef Saj and their falafel! They make them perfect by using fava beans in the Falafel instead of chickpeas; which is the exact and only way this delicious Falafel is made in Egypt! I ran into the owner a few times and he’s very friendly and nice with a great skill of making delicious authentic Egyptian and Middle-Eastern recipes! I highly recommend giving this locally owned food cart a try! I went once and ended up going their every week or two. It’s a truly hidden gem right in Downtown Portland; and I hope their expand into more food carts or bigger restaurants...
Read moreEven if I could give the staff here 10 stars, that wouldn't be enough. I arrived here minutes before closing time and I was greeted warmly by Mama, and was served promptly and efficiently. I was amazed by the taste of the food!! I could not recommend it anymore than I am recommending it now. Foodies of Portland (and blue collar food seekers alone) must try this hidden gem of the night (and the day time too.)
Overall would just inform everyone that our visit was awesome in all respects - I was really impressed.
If you're hungry and in the area don't miss your chance for some great food!!
Also, of note, while we waited for our food, a homeless man came up and asked for any food that she was throwing away. And instead of fulfilling his request (with food from trash bin); she gave him a warm plate of rice, cheese and meat. So generous of her! It must be trying working in thia area and Mama showed the most grace!
Bottom Line: Mama makes the best food around and is just plain awesome! Go see her for the best meal...
Read moreI've been here a few times and I loved it, but this morning's visit made sure I wont come back again.
When I came up to the ordering window a woman was at the grill, when she saw me come up to the window she immediately went into the back of the truck and closed the door.
She then began to yell at who knows and kept the yelling going for a good 10 mins while I sat there just staring at the menue.
Then she finally comes back to the window and asked me "what do you want." I told her "I would like the philly cheesesteak" to which she said "no".
I asked here what was available, and she just turned around without saying a word and ignored me. Like seriously just gave me the silent treatment because I had the gal to come to her food truck and order something.
I dont know if she was having an off night, but reading some of the other comments it seems like shes just a bad owner / operator. Trust me on this one, take your money and eat somewhere else where you will get decent service, and wont be disappointed...
