Abu Omar Gyros & Shawarma — Restaurant in Portland

Excellent food cart! My favorite Mediterranean food cart in Portland. I used to get take-out here when I worked Downtown, and now that I work from home, I get it delivered.

The food is consistently great, and the prices are very reasonable, especially when you consider how much food you're actually getting! The portions are massive; I tend to alternate between the falafel gyro and the chicken arabi, but I usually take the gyro home and eat it on a plate with a fork and knife, like a very large, open-faced sandwich. If you are able eat the gyro holding it in your hands, I am impressed!

I also really, really appreciate how late they're open--literally until 4am! I have no idea why, because nothing else is open at 3am in Portland, but I'm glad these folks are. When it's past midnight, this is just about all I ever order, and it's great every time.

P.S. To the customer who complained about spoiled mayo (?): that's not mayo, it's garlic sauce, which is made with oil. That's not mold, it's spices. Portland continues to astonish me. Also, why would a Mediterranean food cart be serving anyone...

I would like to start off with… The food here is amazingly delicious! I am giving it one star for two reasons. First I ordered from Door Dash (this is not my first time ordering from this location or this dish) when my delivery arrived the triple meat I ordered had a sauce on top of it that has never been put on top before. This is a major concern for me as I’m extremely allergic to eggs and this was a mayonnaise base sauce, therefore I was unable to eat my food. I did try to call to see if they changed this item but no one answered. I looked on their website, Door Dash’s website and on yelp and none of the menus or pictures has this sauce on top of the triple meat. Not did it the couple of times I ordered this dish before. The second reason I am giving one star is because I ordered extra meat, paid for extra meat and did not receive extra meat. I work from home and therefore I am unable to return this dish and I am now frustrated that I have to find another alternative to...

Great food, but the staff don't wear masks.

I found this place recently and discovered that they have some seriously good food. The beef arabi tastes like a traditional street taco but with pickles, which is all I've ever wanted on a taco :)

But just recently I picked up my order instead of having it delivered, and I'm glad I did. The guy at the counter, who I assume was the owner since he was an older gentleman with an earpiece on, had a mask on that was just barely covering his mouth, and was nowhere near his nose. In fact I could see his mouth while he was talking to me. This is pretty gross behaviour in these times, and unfortunately, I will have to discontinue my business at this establishment.
