We have been in search of good Thai take out since our favorite place in NW, eSan Thai off NW Thurman, closed down awhile back. But every time we order from some place new, we are sadly disappointed… until tonight. Red Onion is officially our new go to place for anything and everything Thai. Their food was positively on point and so delicious, with the flavors absolutely bursting in your mouth with every bite. You won’t find any of that bland Thai food that you get at most places here. We decided to go with the basics our first time around and had the Pad Thai, the Pineapple Fried Rice, Tom Kha Soup and Fried Egg Rolls, and everything was divine! We will definitely step out of our comfort zone and be a little more adventurous the next time we visit as I’m sure we will be pleased with whatever we order. If it was this good on takeout, I cannot even imagine how good it would be if we had eaten it fresh at the restaurant when it was still piping hot. I took pics, but they honestly don’t even begin to do it justice. Overall, if you are looking for good quality tasty Thai food in Portland, this is THE PLACE to go. Dine in or take out, you won’t be disappointed.

My new favorite spot now. Friendly hosts. Ordered online and meals were ready in 10mins. Red Curry Chicken and Spicy Chicken/Shrimp Crispy Basil both were very delicious and enough for 2 portions as Lunch orders. For hotness I would order "Thai Hot" as my food was not spicy at "Medium+" especially if you are like me who munches on Habaneros. Meals were double packed with thick plastic then a large brown paper bag. No breaks or leaks in the car. Opens at 11am weekdays, a huge plus unlike other Thai restaurants near me that opens at noon, which delays ordering and returning to work. For pickups park on NW 23rd or even on the side roads as it is not busy at 11am ish. I highly recommend Red Onion.!!!!!!

Came here on the recommendation of a nurse at the hospital across the street. I ordered Panang Curry with chicken. It was served in a bowl with rice on the side. First, beautiful presentation. Second, absolutely delicious. They put a good amount of chicken in it which was nice as one doesn’t usually get a lot of meat in Thai food. I ate more of it than I should have, it was that good. The ambiance of the restaurant is very classy and well done. Service was spot on. I wish I was in Portland more often so I could come often. Will highly recommend to Thai food lovers. Pricing was very affordable. I thought it would be more when I walked in. Great job to the chefs , owners and staff!

Food : Food taste was below average. I have tried more than 20 thai restaurants in pdx area and tried almost all curries from this restaurant as well and this restaurant comes last in terms of food taste. We have visited this restaurant for 5 times to try almost all items but everytime our experience was bad in Food and service both! If they will make any dishes wrong, they will not accept it and moreover they will try to convince you that you read the all details of menu items before ordering and thats what they made! Trust me guys there are tens of other different thai food places near to that street and all are having better taste than this! BE AWARE : You will find some positive reviews on google and we also went by thinking same but later on we found that some positive reviews were given by their internal people!

Service: Worst Service we have ever got! Each time we visited our experience was not good any time! Everytime only two same persons are there taking orders (one guy and one girl) and both dont know how to be polite while taking orders or serving food. They are not mature enough to handle restaurant. If you ask any question about menu items and if they don't know the answer, they will start becoming rude! Though everytime we were having bad experience in service but last time was worst! Last time we reached there by 8:50 PM and we asked if we can dine in and what they said is yes we can as last call for orders is at 9:10. We ordered our food and it got served by 9:10 and just within 15 mins while we were eating they told us to pack our food on to go boxes and leave because closing time is 9:30!! How can anyone complete dinner in 15 mins? If they can not allocate proper time then they should have told us before we dine in! Moreover when we were telling our concern to the guy about timing and food in between another lady jumped in to the conversation and she became super rude and started yelling on us that 15 mins are sufficient to finish food if we dont talk while eating!! We were taken aback so we asked for manager if we can talk with him and explain our concern, and that guy claimed himself as manager and owner of the restaurant and responded that "Closing time is written outside and if you can not compete eating by that time you should not have come for dine in!" They just ruined our last saturday evening in food and service both! I would never come this place again and will not recommend to anyone! Note to owner : please replace existing staff with someone who are having good manners and mature enough in customers service. Visit other thai restaurants nearby and taste their curries. You will realize improvements you need in...

This was my first time dining at this restaurant, and the experience was below par. This is the first time I have experienced such poor service from a restaurant with such good ratings, and would have given -1 stars if that was possible. Although the food and serving size can be considered to be above average, I would not recommend this place if you are looking for a good dine in experience in town. The staff is unnecessarily rude, impolite, unprofessional and seem to have no experience in service or management skills.

Managing a restaurant business, you should know that if a large party is coming to dine in (especially for dinner)there is a certain time that the party would take to wrap up their dinner, and if you can't serve you should make it clear before seating the customers. Right from the time we started to look at the menu to the point we payed up, we were continuously being bugged about the time to the point we had to pack up our food mid-meal because of the kind of impolite behavior. When we tried to politely share our concern after packing our boxes, they were unnecessarily rude to the point of telling us stuff like not to talk so that we had finished our meal quickly, and threatening not to serve us the next time. Being in the service sector, you should have better experience in handling customer concerns and knowing how to talk with customers, and this seems to show that the restaurant doesn't care about their customers. Definitely not a place you should go to with your friends/family if you are going to enjoy a peaceful meal (especially if it's not a strict school lunch break you are looking for :))! There are far more Thai restaurants on that street that will provide you better service and value...

I ordered the beef, pumpkin massaman curry dish and it was legitimately one of the best curry dishes I've ever tasted. The beef was completely tender like a slow-cooked stew beef should be. I could break it apart with a fork without force. The flavor and consistency of the sauce was perfect, and the menu describes the curry itself as being house-made - I believe it, as it's the best yellow curry of any kind I've had before.

Also, it bears mentioning that their online ordering measures for gauging how spicy you'd like your food (within the 'seamless' option anyway), hit the mark just right for me, between what I chose and what I got. Although I will also mention that this same portal for online ordering ultimately told me that the order (for just the one item) would not be ready for about 45 mins, which was definitely not how long it took to make a curry with a side of rice. My food was a little cold when I showed up only 30 mins after ordering, as opposed to 45+ as suggested. So beware the Seamless ETA suggestion when ordering and consider arriving sooner, as your order will be sitting on an unheated counter waiting for you.

Seamless issue aside, and very fortunately, I only live about 3 blocks from this place, so I'm thinking this will become my go-to Thai place if the rest of their menu continues to be this excellent.

I've only gotten take-out so far, upon this first visit, so I can't really speak to the service or the atmosphere, but when I arrived to pick it up, the place was very clean and the host was pleasant.

I'll look forward to trying more of their...
