The young lady working the counter was nice and I could tell she was trying hard to give her best service along with the guy who did his best to serve me my food with the salsa though he struggled with his English, but he did forget to give me napkins with my Torta, a notoriously messy dish. Speaking of the Torta, the restaurant was out of Carnitas, so I chose to go with Al Pastor. The sandwich came served on a smashed and soggy hamburger bun, rather than the roll type bread I am used to from my homeland of Southern California. That combined with the lack of seasoning on the meat ended up making it taste more like a sloppy joe in the end. I was also disappointed that there were no fresh Augas Frescas, especially Horchata, available. I ended up getting a Jarritos Tamarind. What is more disappointing is that their sign advertises Augas Frescas. Overall, the vibe comes off more as a cafe that sells Mexican inspired American food. For the price of $10 for a Torta, I expected it to be served on proper bread at least. I will say that the service was fast and the food was good enough to eat for my lunch, but didn't hold up to more traditional...

was happy to see a lunch place near lloyd center, close to where i work.

Person working there obviously had no interest in helping customers with their orders. i asked a question about their coffee and she literally pointed to the menu and said "this is the coffee options we have here."

like, i know what the menu says, im not blind. I asked if you could make the drinks iced. i was going to order coffee for me and the guys at work, but decided against it due to this person's attitude. was also planning on dining in but decided against it due to the unwelcoming environment.

the burrito looked fresh, but the lettuce inside was wilted, old, and soggy. The meat inside tasted like something id find in an elementary school cafeteria. Gross. oversalted and tasted like the grill it was cooked on hadn't been cleaned in a while.

Needless to say, I'll, unfortunately, never be going back here. The poor customer service and poor food is enough to keep me, and everyone i know away...

Nice place for tacos and burritos. First time trying this restaurant today and happy to report the tacos are fresh and tasty. I ordered one taco of each meat offered; one pastor, one asada, and one carnitas. Each kind of meat was seasoned and cooked well and were served in two small fresh, soft, corn tortillas topped with fresh purple cabbage and cilantro with limes on the side to squeeze on top. They offer two salsas to accompany, both fire roasted, a tomato based salsa (the spicier of the two), and a tangy tomatillo salsa. Both salsas were delicious and a good compliment to the flavor of the tacos. These are great street style tacos. I also bought their fresh green juice and it was delicious. Service was fast and friendly and the place itself is clean and airy. I'm happy Xocalo is open in this area. It gives returning workers another lunch option from...

Reasonably-priced, extremely OK Mexican takeout served fast by depressingly cold staff. By all appearances, Xocalo is a stereotypical event center-adjacent non-franchise lunch spot that specializes in churning out volume over quality to capitalize on large, hungry crowds. I’m amazed this place has a 4.7 rating. I ordered the tamale plate special and a corona at 11:30am on a Wednesday and dined in for $20 w/tip. It was fine. I wouldn’t come back. The rice was crunchy and the tamales were dry and uninspired. Thankfully the Corona was cold. The cashier was borderline hostile even before a line started forming, but especially after. They were the cherry on top of an impressively underwhelming experience. There are better options nearby—do yourself a favor and walk 5 minutes down the road for something worthy of your time and money.

I think it’s easier to be open-minded about the atmosphere, etc., when you’re a resident of Portland and have traveled. That being said, I like the homey feel and personality of the owners coming through. I like this place. It’s directly on the train line, an easy hop-off, hop-off. I was pleasantly surprised by the authentic homemade hot sauce(s). Hot was hot! It took me straight back to Mexico. It was the first thing I noticed. The prices were reasonable for this area. The pastries, horchata, and everything else we tried were delicious. I’d like to see them stick around and thrive, so I’m throwing in my two cents. We will definitely visit again. It’s my son’s new favorite.
