4.5 stars. Considering that this is the only Indian restaurant in Pueblo, I was resigned to making it my regular spot irrespective of how it was. However, my experience here was very positive and pleasant. My friend and I came here around 5:30 pm as they didn't have reservations for later. They are doing outdoor dining and the whole place is super cute, esp with the surrounding buildings that have posters, bar and restaurant signs etc. They've created a cabana like area with water mists to keep the temps cooler. The inside is not open for sitting but I went to use the restroom and found the architecture of everything very pretty. The bar area is also very cute.
They have a fairly normal menu. Don't expect chat, appetizers, South Indian food or anything outside of North Indian curries, biryani and naans.
They have a wide variety of curries. They also have some great veggie options. We got the chicken mughlai curry, the chicken Tikka masala curry, the chicken biryani and a garlic naan. I also got a mango lassi.
The curries were spicy enough for me (ask for Indian hot if you're Indian and love spicy or if you LOVE spicy). There is a slightly home-made feel to them which I appreciated. I liked my mughlai more than my friend's Tikka masala but the Tikka masala was good too.
Garlic naan was very good and had lots of garlic. The curries come with Yellow/Spanish/turmeric rice. It is a lot so we just took the rice home with us.
The biryani was just ok. That was the one let down. I love biryanis and have had some amazing ones back in San Diego (just moved to Pueblo). So that was a little disappointing. Guess I'll just make my own at home.
The mango lassi was very nice and tasted fresh. It comes with whipped cream, cherry and a slice of orange, which I found a difficult to understand. Just leave the mango lassi as is.
Price is on the higher side, esp for Pueblo. For the two of us, and the above, our check was $80. These are huge quantities though, so we are both pretty much set for the weekend in terms of food.
I see myself coming back here often to try the other menu options and of course...
Read moreSince making my way to Peublo people have been telling me to check out Mr.Tandoori as I have a love for great food and a soft spot for Indian. With Pueblo only having a small handful of great dining I was skeptical if this restaurant could live up to it's hype. Sure enough, Mr. Tandoori far exceeded the hype! Pueblo has a few hidden gems, this being one of them. Honestly, I feel this is better than any Indian in Denver or Boulder. The decor is beautiful - tables and chairs draped in bright fabrics and hand crafted wine bottle lights on the table.
The buffet - to me this is the test of a great Indian joint. Will the rice be hard and crunchy? Will the tandoori chicken be dry? Will there be too much veggie or too much meat? Will there be enough options? Well - no, no, no and YES! The rice was perfectly cooked, the tandoori chicken was tender and juicy, there was a perfect ratio of vegetarian to meat options and in so many varied entrees to choose from!
This place seemingly had everything down to a T - from the service and the water (which was deliciously bathing in cantaloupe chunks for added flavor) to the point I got my check I was utterly impressed. I think the successes of Mr. Tandoori is due to the fact that the owner is present and possibly in the kitchen (he was wearing a kitchen apron when I saw him). When a restaurant owner has the passion or does not spread themselves to thin they are able to keep the magic in their restaurant.
Regardless of why or how this place is such a culinary delight, it just is. If you are skeptical of trying Indian food or have had bad experiences in the past go and check this place out during lunch for the buffet - try a little of this and a little of that until something tantalizes...
Read moreGoodness gracious.... what happened to this place!! It was great before and now it is not even good. Look I'm Indian, this food doesn't taste anything like Indian food. Folks don't waste your money. I spent over $53 for two people and was totally disappointed in the flavor and the quality. Makes me wonder who is really cooking the foods now, DEFINITELY not someone who knows Indian cuisine!!!! Prices went up high and quality went down so low. The naan was thick, dense, burnt and ashy black on one side, the lentils were overcooked to a mush, the chicken masala was sweet and off tasting, the rice was a total fail, the saag paneer flop, the chutneys...please don't even..the gulab jamun ..dense and gross, tandoori chicken flop. Please don't misrepresent what Indian cuisine should be. Take a class and get this right if you are to call this Indian cuisine, and sell at a high price. What a sham. You get better tasting Indian cuisine from frozen Indian dinners at your local grocery stores! I've never written this bad of a review...but this place just absolutely was a waste of my time, money and ruined my appetite. I go there to get great Indian cuisine that I don't cook myself and it has always been great for years....if the owner has changed...then new owner please don't continue selling this food...don't try and fake it. If you are Indian and you are reading this you know exactly what I mean. I should have just cooked myself a great Indian dinner. NEVER going back. 1 star for the Styrofoam food container and plastic...
