We had the unfortunate experience of visiting this bar back in 2021, and it was, without a doubt, the worst service we've ever encountered at a bar. Upon our arrival, we were warmly greeted and given menus, but after we settled at our table, it took over 15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us. There were 2-3 bartenders present, yet they had their backs turned to us, and one was preoccupied with her phone. The cleanliness of the bar left much to be desired; the dirty glasses that were at our seat when we arrived remained there until we left. No one ever inquired if we wanted another drink, and we ultimately had to ask for our check in order to leave. Honestly, we could have walked out without anyone noticing!
While we waited for someone to take our order, we noticed another group come in, sit down, and then leave in frustration after receiving no attention. One of the bartenders simply shrugged, collected the menus, and returned to her phone. It was disheartening because the bar itself is beautiful, and with its unique history as the only speakeasy on the island, it could be a fantastic destination. Unfortunately, the service we experienced was unacceptable. Since that visit, we haven't returned, and while I hope things have improved, I doubt we'll ever go back...
Read moreThis is a speak easy with house rules posted just inside the door. It is supposed to be a quiet place, with one of the rules being that patrons are to “speak easy” (quietly). When I was there a couple of years ago, this rule was enforced and it was a lovely place to enjoy a cocktail. Well, they don’t enforce it anymore and the place was ridiculously loud. Further, the music they piped in was some kind of techno pop/disco type crap that is totally out of character for the decor and speak easy vibe they want to present. Some old time jazz would be more appropriate. As the patrons got louder, an employee turned the music up, causing people to yell even louder to hear each other! When we arrived on this visit, we were the only people there and it was great, aside from the music selection. However, it filled up quickly and got so loud, we couldn’t pay our check and get out of there fast enough. It’s just sad and disappointing. The drinks were very good, the decor is really cool, but the music and rowdy customers ruin the experience. Every bar on the island is loud and rowdy, this is supposed to be the exception. Anyone who wants a typical bar atmosphere can go to any of the many bars here and party hard. Too bad this place has become...
Read moreI ordered an espresso martini. I have had many in my day, and even make it myself often. When I received it, there were small balls of chocolate floating aggressively throughout, and it tasted like watered down coffee with straight absolute vodka. I took two sips and asked if they can just make it on the rocks with no chocolate pebbles. That one was palatable. The reasoning for one star is that the individual with the beard made me pay for the original martini in which again, I gave back after two sips! The total bill was $41 for three drinks 2 of which my mother and I drank and another I gave back! I did ask if they accidently didn't take one off, the man with the beard rudely claimed that it is against their policy to comp, especially when the drink was made correctly. I would have understood if I drank the whole thing, however two sips is far from that. The situation could have been avoided with simple common restaurant etiquette....
