Tried the much vaunted lobster bisque on the recommendation of a buddy. $12.50 for a piece of sourdough bread a restaurant gives you for free with a meal. Typical summer employment kids working in the glass enclosed "bisque kitchen" stirring up what is most likely a soup base and tossing in a few small shreds of lobster. The place serves 100% frozen ocean seafood at inflated tourist prices and I'm guessing the lobster is in a jumbo bag. I didn't see any fresh, living lobsters pining for the fjords. I did see tiny paper cups I assumed were for sampling the bisque. No, they were the normal portion!
They cut a small plug out of the small bread loaf which is the size of a baseball, the loaf that is and ladle in a couple fluid ounces of thickening cream passing as bisque and you might get a couple pieces of actual lobster. The plug is laid on the side and a bit of ever clotting bisque is dripped on that which spreads across the foam plate. They don't even ladle the stuff from the original pot but have an electric hot pot sitting on the counter.
I asked if there was any actual fresh Lake Erie fish and was pointed over to a small counter outside where they sell that. Guessing its not fresh either as there are zero fishing boats in sight. Ordered a house specialty bloody mary and got an 8 ounce plastic cup full of ice, some bottom shelf mix , maybe a little vodka and a skewer with lemon slices, a green olive and a limp pickle slice on top. $9 for that... We even forgot the 10% off discount on the $100 in savings coupons that we were handed while renting a 7 mph golf cart at $20 per hour.
Somebody's making a killing on the touristas at Put-in-Bay, Ohio. Make that everybody. Of course for most of the year its a deserted island. Oh and the mayflies breed by the billions in June so everything is covered with them. Catch-22 is they don't bite but do smell like a giant,...
Read moreEnd of Season..... BLAH SERVICE. Had lunch here; views and Lake Effect atmosphere were great. Food ok, service, mehhh. What is unique and not helpful as a food establishment is that at The Boardwalk you have to go to another line and pay separately if you want fries. Not sure why the French Fry service was with the Pizza place???? Lobster was good, chicken sandwich good. Cashier had attitude and submissive when asked a question about the additional fees for using Credit Card instead of greenback. We were given a flag and sent on our merry way to find a table... Fortunately, mid week and end of season, so not a problem on available tables. However, I quickly discovered, there was no place to put the flag in an upright position for staff visibility, even trying to Jerry-rig it somehow to the table or our chairs. No other tables had a flag holder that i could grab. Waited for staff to pass so I could ask for one. After a while, I went up to one of them and they were confused as to what I was asking, even after I showed the the flag.....sigh.....even polka dancing didn't help. Finally understood and went and got one for me. Just seemed that all the staff were waiting in complete boredom for summer to be over to return to school. Price adjustments (That's hyper inflation) follow suit with the rest of the economy here: Hike them prices up, but don't improve or focus on service and make everyone wonder around to find their french fries to go with the seafood meal !!!. Of course I enjoyed the view which tempered all that craziness and stupidity. Maybe the owners or managers figure customers can be like their hound dog staff and just run around trying to sniff and figure it all out, looking for a doggy bone afterwords. Note: I didn't see any pets in this restaurant. I also individually tipped the staff that retrieved a flag...
Read moreMyself, wife, and 1 year old daughter go in for the first time. When we arrive everyone at the host station was very rude and not attentive at all, not were the practicing social distancing or wearing masks. Then we got a high chair that was broken and would not clip. When we asked our waitress for a new one she says I don’t know if that one will be any different. It felt almost like they didn’t want us or our daughter there. Then she keeps coming back trying to get our order every 2 min like we were being rushed. My wife didn’t really care for the menu items and we didn't really care for her attitude so we left. The waitress literally chased us out of the restaurant confronting Us about leaving and then another man yelling from the top deck complaining about “wasting food” Little do they know I’m on operations consultant for one of the biggest food industry companies in the world. This was terrible service and frankly embarrassing when they chased us out ruining our put in bay trip. I’ll be contacting the Ottawa county health department tomorrow in regards to all the violations I noticed as I am very familiar with the proper procedures that were not being displayed in the restaurant today. Very very sad and dangerous with how they are operating. I’d be ashamed if I was in charge of managing this operation given this experience and I will...
