As you would rightly assume by its name, you can expect to get fried chicken served with honey. (There is an offer of pork shoulder meatloaf and typical brunch fare on Saturdays and Sundays.) What stood out to me is the restaurants attempt at sustainability. The menu is written on the chalkboard wall- no passed menus. Drinks are served in glass Mason jars with no straws. Sauces are served in miniature metal jugs. Beasley's seems to pride itself on its homemade biscuits as well. I ordered the chicken biscuit - served with fried green tomato and dijon mustard and honey and a side of green bean casserole. I requested my sauces on the side. My partner in crime ordered the 1/4 chicken and an order of biscuits. The best thing about the place is the chicken (rightly so). Its fried to perfection, nicely seasoned. I have no complaints. Dark meat is served unless requested when ordering the quarter chicken. The biscuits are decent. They kind of tasted cornbread-y but not sweet. I enjoyed the fresh take on the green bean casserole - it seemed as though the creamy sauce was made in house. My only plight, too many mushrooms! This place is definitely worth a visit though. Just know that it will be very busy during the lunch hour and in the middle of the restaurant is one long table so you may be rubbing shoulders with folks you've never met. Paul @ the bar was an...
Read moreThis is a nice little restaurant tucked away in the beautiful historic downtown of Raleigh. Parking here seemed to be readily available with a paid parking lot just across the street but there was also plenty of free street parking around the area. I ordered a chicken sandwich with 2 biscuits and some mac n cheese that I shared with my girlfriend. The sandwich was amazing, the chicken was cooked to perfection and it all came together nicely. The biscuits were delicious and not like anything I'd had before. Now the mac n cheese while not being what would be considered traditional mac n cheese was still just as good. My girlfriend didn't believe I'd like it as much given that it's not really what I'm used to, but honestly I really really enjoyed it. For dessert we both had the banana pudding, this was my favorite part of the meal and closed out my whole eating experience really well. Service-wise, I have no complaints. The person taking care of us was really sweet and helpful. Now I'm gonna resonate with some of the other reviews I've seen, the chairs and tables here are a little too low to the ground and do make you feel as if you're a pre-schooler. That's my only complaint if you can even really call it one with this place. If I could give it a 4.5-5 I would. Food wise it is a 5/5. I definitely would recommend checking...
Read moreIn Raleigh for a college tour and we wanted a simple restaurant to try out for dinner and obviously we checked out the reviews for restaurants in the area. Me being a fan of Chicken and Waffles, I said say less. We arrived at the restaurant and were quickly seated, got our menus and unfortunately, we waited. On the night we visited, it seems that there was only one waitress but she did the best she could.
We placed our orders and considering the staff shortage, our food came out in decent time. I ordered the Chicken and Waffles which can be customized with breasts, wings, thighs or drumsticks. I was pleasantly surprised with the flavor of the chicken; my only complaint was the chicken breast was too greasy and had an oily aftertaste. The waffle was delicious, well made and perfect.
One interesting thing that happened that caught me off guard was my daughter ask if she could have some extra sauce for her chicken sandwich and the guy quickly says that’ll be an extra charge. There wasn’t that much sauce in the first place but whatever. We paid extra 😏 The atmosphere was quiet and the decor was decent. I could see myself coming back in the future but realistically, I’d probably try...
