I’ve been looking for a place with soup dumplings for a while. Heard about this place from some friends and decided to try it out. Arrived at the perfect time and was seated right away. While looking through the menu and placing our order I noticed a line forming in the lobby and outside the door. You place your order & pay on your phone via QR code. It lets them know what table you are at and it’s set up like a bar tab where you settle at the end. The place looked very busy but still clean and our table was very clean. They have all kinds of seating options for all size parties too. Everyone who worked there had a mask on. They give you a menu to look at that has pictures but the menu on the phone that your ordering has more items available. Once we hit that submit button everything started coming out pretty quickly but not all at once. Eventually our table was super full with plates. Almost got one of everything here is our order w/ our personal opinion next to it Passion Fruit Green Tea Amazing - I could drink this all day long. It’s so good. Sour Plum JuiceAmazing - I could drink this all day long as well. It was so good. Green Onion Pancake *Delicious - can’t go wrong with this light fluffy flavorful pancake. It’s a must! The sweet & sour sauce that’s poured over it was so good we dipped everything we had in it and it definitely takes it to a new level of deliciousness!!! Read moreJust visited last night. We ordered:
pork & crab xlb hot & sour noodle soup kale with the sweet and spicy Spicy Beef Shank
the XLB is definitely not handmade, skin is thick, broth is not clear soup tasting, its slightly thick. flavor is good. meat filling is not super tender/soft, but meatier than DTF, i give it a 3/10, its definitely better than mama doughs in Kent.
hot & sour noodle soup, it was actually really good. we enjoyed this very much. flavorful. the soybeans were slightly crunchy/harder, not soft, i wouldve preferred it to be soft/fermented, but this was probably my favorite that we ordered.
spicy beef shank was good, the sliced up thin beef meat seasoned with spices and pepper was good. it was not as clean shaven as other locations have, it was quite "shredded" into small pieces. check out my videos for what i mean.
the sweet & spicy kale dish....this was honestly poorly made. there was WAY too much of the sauce on there. the veggies were perfectly blanched. but it tasted like someone just put too much sauce on it and it overwhelmed the entire dish. I only ate a few bites and did not bother to take it home. too sweet, tasted like a fast food salad with too much dressing on it.
service was great for table service.
they started mopping and cleaning the bathroom areas before they even closed and my daughter had to use the restroom, it was super slippery (which they had signs up and informed us to be careful) but from a business standpoint and hazard precaution to prevent accidents, they should clean these common areas after closing to prevent any falls.
Sauces on the tables were clean and nicely presented. Table set up was clean.
ambience super cute and modern, open and bright.
if you're judging me for my review, my background is that I used to work for DTF as a KM and FOH Manager, I no longer work with DTF anymore.. so I have plenty of experience to critique this kind of food. anywho. its a decent spot to grab casual xlb dishes, prices are reasonable, but be careful with trying their new dishes, that was unpleasant to have the kale. i probably shouldve sent it back and not paid for it. but heres my honest review for it. overall, i would come back for some of the noodles and side dishes. not a huge fan of the XLBs...
Read moreIt was no wait for a drop in 1 hour before close, which was great and pleasing
Service: 1 out 5 It wasn't busy, but my server didn't really check on us and placed our until per ticket 917pm. I also wondered who our server was since it wasn't too busy and he didn't introduce himself or any small talk. Like asked how me and my parents and I are doing? Or have we been here before? Any recommendations of food to try? It just felt like he wanted us to order food and leave. It's missing the experience from a customer point of view. Our server (Xinchang L or Jeremy was his name) did confirm our order, which is great but lacked the presence of checking in on us how was the food or maybe even try selling us on there recommendations or even mention dessert at the end of our meal. I believe this could be a great area to improve on
Also, the expo that dropped off the XLB just placed it on top of the pork pun basket. Didn't bother to stop, wait, and let me grab the pork bun and then drop off the XLB. It felt like she was in a hurry, which I didn't get her name, but it could also be an area to improve on.
Food: Was delicious and affordable. I agree with others on that matter. But as 1st timer trying the food, it was okay, not the greatest, which I understand a thought might come into your head while reading" if you didn't like the food go eat (blank) restaurant" I totally understand but atleast now I have an idea of the food and can make a better judgment on the food from now on.
Atmosphere: I ordered food at 917pm and left around 945pm. I understand it's closing time. Everyone has a closing task and wants to go home. But overall, with the service, it just felt like they wanted us to pay for our food and leave without experiencing anything about doughzone. I dont even know what makes you stand out, I didn't know what's a popular item on the menu, i and myself didn't have any reason to order more food (even though i was still hungry when leaving. )I believe if you improve the service with the customer and FOH (servers, expo,) it would really improve the atmosphere and overall experience of the customer. Which will translate into more customers ordering more food and eventually more money for the bussiness and more...
