I have never had a very disrespectful customer service experience in my entire life like what I experienced in this Starbucks today, March 28th, 2019 (4:30pm). I had a Starbucks Gift Card for a long time that I wanted to confirm if it was still active. I walked into Kroger and headed to the Starbucks corner and stood on the line (no one was on the line). I observed Hannah (Starbucks employee) making stuff and Stanley(second Starbucks employee) working on something.
None of the two employees addressed me (not even "welcome to Starbucks!"). After about 3 minutes on the line, Stanley silently (under his breadth) said to Hannah, "someone is waiting". Hannah looked up and said "I saw that". She stood by one of the brewing machine and walked side-to-side from one machine to another.
About 7 minutes had passed; no one said anything. I was still standing there - simply putting into practice my emotional intelligence and calm and gentle spirit lessons! I noticed Hannah passed a cup to a little girl that was sitting by the side. I guessed they had ordered before I got there. Then the mom came and Hannah passed another cup to her.
Stanley looked up at me and shrug his shoulder as if he was saying "she is on duty. I can't help you".
10 minutes had passed since I was standing there. It was now 4:40pm. I walked away without saying a word. I stood afar off to watch what will happen next. A young man came and stood on the line. Hannah immediately started speaking to him and made a drink for him in less than 2 minutes.
I walked back and said to Stanley and Hannah: "I'm not sure why I stood on the line for 10 minutes without anyone attending to me but that young man that just left was attended to in less than 2 minutes"?
Stanley said "I'm sorry sir". Hannah said "he works here and he orders the same thing all the time".
Then I requested to speak with the Supervisor. Hannah said "she is not here". I asked for the supervisor's number. She grabbed her phone and gave me her phone number.
Then Stanley said "I am sorry sir, what was it that you wanted?" I brought out my gift card and told him all I wanted was to know if the gift card is still active. He checked it in the system and printed out a validity confirmation receipt. It was now 4:45pm as you can see in the attached receipt.
All I have to say to Hannah is that it is not right to treat anyone the way she treated me with disdain and disrespect. It is just not right.
I called the supervisor at 4:52pm and left her a message. As soon as I hear from Starbucks, I will provide updates. God bless!
Update (5/11/2019) - Starbucks corporate and the manager at Kroger location reached out to me day following my review. They were very hospitable and apologetic about what happened. They offered to give me a $25 Gift Card. But I declined the gift card and thanked them for the offer. The young man that works here is always very accommodating and has great customer service unfortunately not all of the staff is customer service oriented. To the management please educate your staff and use the correct signage for your sale items so the staff doesn't have to inconvenience customers and call management at home to figure out which items are on sale and which are not. Also please take down displays that are not available andand sale such as the red reusable cup that was advertised today.
