We visited BJs on Sunday, July 10th around 7pm. The place was packed outside so we decided to eat indoors because they still had tables. When we walked in we weren’t greeted by any of the hostesses and they actually seemed angry that they had to seat us. The one who was working to find tables seated the people in line ahead of us and then walked off. It turns out she was clocking out and didn’t even have the decency to say, please excuse me while another hostess seats you. I wanted to leave but my husband and son really wanted to stay so we waited a good 5 minutes for another hostess to seat us and even she was distracted and didn’t greet us. She asked where we wanted to sit and we chose a table away from the busy bar area. Our table was clean but we didn’t have any napkins or silverware, we had to ask for that, we also had to ask for water and when it came time to order, half of the food was sold out or unavailable so our options were limited. Again, I wanted to leave but my husband’s coworkers insisted the food was worth it. I can assure you, it wasn’t. The best thing we had were the mozzarella sticks and mixed alcoholic drinks. The burgers and fries were cold, the pizza tasted like Pizza Hut pizza or a frozen pizza you could cook at home. I was not impressed with the food at all and my husband and son were very disappointed. Our bill was almost $120 and for that amount of money to feed 3 people, the food should have tasted better and the hostesses that greet you should be friendly. The only reason I am not giving them one star is because our waiter was super nice and attentive. My husband tipped him $20. He was the friendliest person they had working there. Everyone else was just rude. We won’t be coming back.

DISCLAIMER... This review & rating is due to staffing & NOT to the food. (Enter the characters) THE HOSTESS... upon entering the establishment, we were greeted by a very unenthusiastic & somewhat unfriendly hostess. No eye contact, energy, or feeling of "welcome" to a first time guest. This being our first time there, it was quite uninviting & laid the foundation for the remainder of the visit. THE RESTURAUNT... Very nicely decorated & laid out. Plenty of space & lots of natural light made it quite comfortable & relaxing. THE WAITRESS... being waited on was timely however, it seemed like she too was having a bad day. Very little energy combined with no eye contact made ordering seem like a chore & that she was doing us a favor. We placed our order with our drinks so we could get done in time to make it back to the office (this was a lunch meeting). We received our drinks & then our server was never seen again for over 20mins. Our food ticket time was waaay too long & she never came over to check in or to apologize for the extreme delay. Looking around the place, there were many empty seats so being too busy should not have been the issue. Either way, a polite check in would not have been too much to ask seeing others at different tables (seated & ordered after us) getting attention & food from their wait staff. 25-30mins later, our simple chicken sandwich & burger finally arrived. Overall, the taste of the food, presentation, & temp was awesome. I came for the food but won't come back due to the service (or lack there of). It's a shame that a place with soo much potential is hamstringed by employees like this. Hope this gets sorted out BJ's as your food is very tasty & the menu is welcoming.

They have a pretty large menu so you should find something for everyone here. But it’s low quality chain restaurant food with average service but priced high. We had a positive interaction being seated. After that things were just okay and nothing to rave about. Waited a little long to even be acknowledged. The server had a few large groups. Although it’s not too difficult to even say “I’ll be with you in a moment” or have someone else in the restaurant at least bring water to the table. We tried the mozzarella sticks (tasted frozen and warm, not hot), also I tried the $19 Thursday special of sirloin steak with two sides and a dessert cookie. We also had the spicy chicken sandwich with fries and a side of onion rings. Do not order any of these items. I’ve done the work for you. I had a side salad with my dinner as a choice for my side. It was drowning in dressing. The sirloin steak was tough and it was a strange cut of meat. The roasted veggies as my other side were overcooked and did not taste fresh. The spicy chicken sandwich was equivalent to mcdonald’s, but the sauces were way too spicy and no explanation was given as to what they were. The fries were just okay. But the six onion rings we received were tough and chewy and terrible. Being diabetic I couldn’t eat the dessert but was bringing it home to someone else. I think that may have been the only positive food item we had. If I came here again it would be to try the brews at the bar for a game or meeting friends. Not for dinner.

What can I say about BJs brew house. Well first off it was a Monday afternoon and our first time going here. We knew one of the waitresses (a friend of a friend of ours). We sat in the bar area at the back booth. There were plenty of servers (this is a plus), the bar tender was our waitress but we had the manger bring us food, another waitress and another waitress on top of our waitress brings food and drinks through out our lunch. We had the deep dish nachos with chicken to start. Very good, sour cream wasn’t frozen but the guacamole was too stiff (maybe warm that up before putting it on top, just a suggestion) I did the unlimited soup and salad which the salad was fresh and very good. (It’s salad though so if any place screws that up then they have more problems than we know). I got the tortilla soup, it was very good, not over powered by anything but the right amount including corn. Which I hate corn (unless it’s corn on the cob). Don’t ask, I know that doesn’t make sense but I’m weird when it comes to corn. Anyways I let my daughter and wife try it because it was that good. We loved it. Soup was amazing. Main meals (daughter crispy jalapeño burger e/ fries) cooked well done but wasn’t dried out at all. Very good! (I took a bite, it was very juicy and bursting with charbroiled flavor). (Wife had the bacon chicken Padina) it was very hot and kinda like a chicken quesadilla but way better. (Again, I had a bite of it) I got the jambalaya, now I know what Cajun jambalaya tastes like and this was nothing close. I had like 4 bites of it and just stopped eating it. First, it wasn’t even hot when it came out, it was barely warm. The sauce had no flavor and was not a sauce at all but like a paste. (Almost like it was over cooked and then sat under a warmer for 20mins) The rice and bell peppers were bland, the sausage was dried out and so thin all the flavor in it was gone. When our waitress came over I’m like, can we get boxes and told her to take the full plate of jambalaya back. Explained what was wrong with it. She asked if I wanted it remade and I’m like no I’m not too impressed with it. She apologized to me. Offered to take it off my bill. I said ok thanks. She goes into the kitchen and the manager comes out. She asks me if she can remake it for me and said I’ve already taken it off your bill but I want you to enjoy it and your wife won’t have to cook dinner tonight. After thinking about it I’m like I don’t know…..I’m like if it comes out the way it did then no I don’t want it. I expressed my thoughts to her and she said I will go back and be on the line with it. I said ok. We paid our bill and a few moments later she came back with it already boxed up. I had a fork and told her I want to try it before I leave. She said ok no problem. This jambalaya she brought me was nothing like what I just had. The sauce had flavor and was actually cooked correctly. It was hot and jumping with spices, my tastes buds were firing off like fireworks, that first bite left me wanting more. I said if this is how it’s suppose to be made than I would have ate all of this. I thanked her for going above and beyond for me and making sure I was satisfied. In today’s society there are not to many people or establishments who do this anymore and for her to go out of her way to make me happy was very well appreciated by all of us. With this being our first experience going here I will be honest I will come back and brag on the customer service this place has. I was very impressed by her willingness to provide the customer service she did. She could have just discounted my bill but she went above and beyond and for that I am truly grateful. BJs Brewhouse, you get 5 stars out of 5 stars from us and we want to say keep up the awesome customer service. Until we see you again Thank you so much for making our first visit wonderfully enjoyable.

Sincerely,

The...

It is with great sadness I have to leave a 1 star review. When we moved to the area 2 yrs ago and went here the food and service were amazing. Since then we have probably gone there a dozen times or so. We have even recommended the restaurant and bought gift cards. But the last 3 times service has been awful. Today was the final straw. It took forever to get our drink and appetizer order. Finally the waitress took our order. We waited about 15 minutes for our drinks. The manager the. Came over and told us they didn’t have anymore avacado egg rolls and that they would comp us another appetizer. The appetizer came out and we asked our server again if we could get the “kids starter”. At this time we also asked if we could place our order (mind you the restaurant seemed to be normal occupancy and she was giving plenty of attention to other tables). Our food finally came out but my salad never came out and the kids “starters” still never arrived. My wife’s food wasn’t brought out either. Our drinks were also empty at this time. I actually went to the hostess stand and asked if they could bring us ketchup. The nice lady said sure. No one brought it. About 10 minutes later a gentlemen brought out the ketchup. At that time we asked about my salad, my wife’s food, and the kids starter. He said he was going to get the manager. The manager came out after about 5 minutes. Listened to our concerns and said she was gonna go get the drinks and my wife’s food. Another 5 minutes went by and someone finally brought out refills of 3 root beers, 1 Arnold Palmer, and 1 Lavendar lemonade. My salad showed up about 5 minutes later mins you I was already 1/2 way done with my slab of ribs that I would have liked more sauce on but at this point I knew that was a lost cause. They then brought out my wife’s food. The manager said she will comp a desert and the appetizer(which she was already comping). The waitress finally showed up for for the desert order. We got the dessert. Then it was another 15 minutes for the waitress to bring us the bill cause she said she needed the manager to credit the desert.

We love the food here. We love the atmosphere. But I can’t tolerate the lackluster service anymore and I don’t think we will...

This place was very disappointing. So, they are extremely overpriced first & foremost. The wine I drink costs $40 for a bottle here when you can but it at Costco for $7.49 & any other retailer for no more than $12. But with it being a "brewery" I suppose that's acceptable? I'm in downtown Chicago a lot to enjoythe nightlife & their prices on alcohol are similar. Lots of different varieties of beers, very cool on that aspect. Our food on the other hand was probably the absolute worst my husband & I have had in awhile. We inquired w/our server if burgers were only made well done or do they cook to order. And he assured us they cook to order. My hubby ordered medium and got super well done. And he was given the wrong kind of burger. My husband doesn't eat blue cheese but the burger had blue cheese in it. He also said the burger had a strange flavor. I ordered a Philly cheese steak sandwich. There were no mushrooms as indicated on menu & my God, the meat that is supposedly slow cooked...No, it is quite literally microwavable meat. Same level as what is in a hot pocket & somehow it was dry and overcooked. Their famous cole slaw is almost all completely red cabbage with barely any sauce to it. Imagine misting chopped cabbage with super watery mayonnaise. I honesty could barely taste flavor. I felt like I straight up bit into a cabbage. We did order mozzarella stick. Not my favorite kind of breading blah, blah, blah but there was nothing wrong with them. They were cooked perfectly. Just not my favorite type of mozzarella stick. So, that's a personal preference. Our server was really nice but inexperienced. No, big issue with that. As long as you're kind and trying I can work with that. So, overall, ambiance was medium. Very large and spacious, interesting things to look at. Good booze selection, but really overpriced. Food was absolutely awful. Server was kind. And I must address that they were gracious enough to remove one meal from our bill. Although appreciated, something really needs to change. Definitely will NOT be returning & will not be...
