I was elated when a friend of mine reached out to share that she wanted to catch up over coffee, I was even more elated when I learned that she would be bringing her two in a half month old baby boy; therefore, it would become an unofficial “sip & see!” Knowing my passion of reading and writing reviews, she sent me four coffee shop options via Yelp. Out of the four, the one that stood out the most was Camp Cove. Looking to forward to catching up with my friend and meeting her handsome baby boy, I commenced to make the 20 minute trek from Elk Grove.
Upon entering the establishment I made a beeline for the bathroom so that I could wash my hands in anticipation of interacting with the baby. While washing my hands I thought, “hmmm…I entered the establishment (which did not have a long line at the time) and was not acknowledged by neither of the two employees that were behind the counter.” To make matters worse, when I returned from the bathroom and sat down to greet my friend and her baby, we sat for an extended period of time without an employee acknowledging us. After deciding on our drink choices, I opted for the refreshingly delicious Iced Honeycomb Matcha, we both stood in line to place our orders. While standing at the front of the line, I observed two employees talking in the back area. When the employee saw that I was observing his lack of response, he motioned for his colleague to assist us (they might as well have played rock paper scissors to determine who would step up to the cash register). The employee that assisted us was borderline friendly and she gave off the vibe that she had better things to do.
The employee who took our orders shockingly delivered the drinks to the table that we were seated at. After taking the first sip of my Iced Honeycomb Matcha I knew that I made the right choice! For a mild, yet humid morning, I found it to be refreshing and the taste of honey was quite prevalent. As we sat and caught up on family & work, the background music served as a perfect soundtrack (they played a sleeper favorite of mine called Baby Powder by the artist Jenevieve).
Overall, I enjoyed the experience at Camp Cove. Although the customer service was subpar, I found satisfaction in the quality of my drink. This location is extremely close to my workplace, so I may return in the near future to try their Iced...
Read moreWow that breakfast sandwich is so good. It’s a pretty simple bacon, egg, and cheese, but sometimes simple is best! The bacon is super thick cut and high quality, it’s really the star of the show. With a perfect runny, gooey, yummy over easy egg. All housed in a stand-up sesame bun. The bun was sturdy and held its shape with a nice crisp, not too soft so no soggy buns! The sesame also gives good texture. They provide Cholula on the side which pairs nicely to cut through all that bacon. Plus, the entire sandwich was well-seasoned! The sandwich was enough to make me want to go back and try their other food items!
I also got an unsweetened matcha latte which was pretty good but nothing particularly special.
Pretty tiny spot. Probably not great for working, as there aren’t many tables and I did not see a lot of outlets. But very bright with lots of natural light and a minimal/natural aesthetic.
Cute addition to the neighborhood! Try the breakfast sandwich, you will not be...
Read moreI’m giving 2 stars for the price of a ridiculously small breakfast sandwich (nearly $16 w/ tax!). Literally, a small sesame burger bun, one fried egg, two fatty pieces of bacon! Showed my Australian friend the menu - he lol’d, said he reckoned this is where the “typically Australian” comes in - Sydney is hella expensive! However, I will admit it was a tasty tiny sandwich, But there are a number of places in the neighborhood that also have breakfast sandwiches, the same size or larger for less $$ and just as tasty.
While the staff was OK, neither friendly nor unfriendly, the space is too small to hang out and again the prices are outrageous.
Given that this place is in a state building, and I assume they’re banking on state employee traffic (do the owners realize state employees do not get paid very well lol) I doubt this place will be there for long. So, If overpriced, coffee, smoothies, and small portion plates is your bag then enjoy it while...
