This place is charming and welcoming. It's new and the menu was created by Chef Dora. Let me start off by explaining the 4 stars. The restroom is far across the lobby of the connecting building so it's hard to find if you're not escorted by staff. They're located at the end of a business building on the corner of 9th (between I & J Street), across from their sister restaurant, La Cosecha, at Cesar Chavez Park. Use street parking or the parking garage.
Food takes a little while but be patient because the care and flavors are worth it.
Let's get into the good stuff because even the chiles used are imported from Peru. Think fusion flavors between Peru, Mexico and Asian influences.
Tribute to Rainbow Mountain: Literally a little mountain of deliciousness with diced sashimi tuna. The purple sweet potato puree along with the avocado puree makes this dish pop. A slight smokiness from the chipotle sauce and topped with pickled red onion & plantain chip pieces. A must try!
Agua Chile de Camaron: Raw shrimp (mix to begin the curing process) is spicy and tasty. The green salsa, sliced red onion, cucumber and jalapeno brings this home. I added more fresh lime juice, but it's already high in acidity. The tostadas are crispy goodness.
Rockfish Tiradito: This sashimi rockfish dish is packed with so much flavor and color. The sauce has a hint of spice, smoky and sweetness to it. The sweet potatoes compliment it well. This is my favorite dish between the 3 we tried. This one truly shines with cultures & flavors.
Give them a try!...
Read moreThis place is unfortunately not the place for me or my partner, but the other 4 guests at my table seemed to enjoy themselves.
The Lobster Soup is served in a very small bowl for the $6.50 price and is not served in a bread bowl per the menu posted online
The Peruvian Octopus was cooked well, but again I do not believe the portion size was worth the price.
The Lomo Saltado should be given an option on how well you want it cooked, I found out after the meal that my partner was not happy with how rare the meat was cooked and would have much preferred a medium or medium well, but she was too shy to speak up about it. This meal is served on a large bed of rice and I believe it to be much more worth the price tag, but unfortunately it was not to her taste.
The food has a nice presentation, but that does not affect my score, the server was honestly very nice and the whole atmosphere was very casual.
Perhaps we would have enjoyed different meals more, but this is not something I would take a...
Read moreI found Octopus Peru while searching for a restaurant near Golden 1 Arena, and it was a fantastic choice! We started with drinks—my wife loved her “Amore del Mar” so much she had two, and my “Guava Affair” was incredible. I also tried the “Peruvian Spicy,” which had tequila, ginger, mango, and habanero syrup—the heat was perfect! We have a tradition of ordering oysters, so we couldn’t resist the ½ dozen, but the “Smokey Tuna Tostada” was the real star.
The portions were large, prices reasonable, and despite how busy it was, the staff was friendly and attentive. A highlight was chatting with the owner, who told us about his other restaurant, “Octopus Baja”—I’ll definitely be trying it next time we’re in midtown! The inviting atmosphere set the perfect tone for a parents' night out without the kids before the show. Can’t...
