"Im sorry, we do it way different than you do it in the south!" A Shocking Dining Experience - Terrible Food and Racist Customer Service
Rating: ★☆☆☆☆ (1/5)
My first Anniversary visit to 'The Porch' was nothing short of a complete disaster. It is with great disappointment that I write this review, as I hoped for a pleasant dating experience but encountered a series of disturbing incidents.
The first issue was the food. The quality of the dishes served at The Porch was a beautuful presentation but far from acceptable. Every aspect of the meal fell short of basic expectations. My wife and I ordered a variety of dishes, and they all seemed to share the same lackluster quality . My catfish came back soggy because it was garnished on top of lettuce to drain the oil!? Like who wants fried soggy fish. My grits were just mush with an oatmeal texture far from gritty. And the biscuits were hard. So I complained and the waiter replied with 'im sorry sir we don't cook like u do it in the south.' Which was the ultimate slap in the face. Im black but im from California not the south! Nor have never been.
So However, the most disheartening aspect of my visit was the racist customer service we received. From the moment we entered the restaurant, it was apparent that some staff members held biased views. We were seated at our table, and our server made a series of derogatory comments under their breath, which were directed towards members of my party who were of a different ethnicity. The microaggressions persisted throughout the evening, leaving us feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable. It is absolutely unacceptable for any establishment to tolerate or engage in such behavior.
When we attempted to address this issue with the management, we were met with indifference and apathy. The fact that the management did not take immediate action to rectify this situation was deeply disappointing. In such a diverse and multicultural world, it is essential for businesses to ensure their customers are treated with respect and dignity, regardless of their background.
In conclusion, I cannot recommend 'The Porch' to anyone. The dismal food quality and the disturbing racism that marred our experience left a sour taste in our mouths. I implore the restaurant to undertake serious self-reflection and make immediate changes to their practices, both in the kitchen and concerning their customer service, to ensure that no other patrons have to endure such a distressing ordeal.
It is my hope that by sharing this review, others will be made aware of the troubling experiences that can occur at 'The Porch and the restaurant will take the necessary steps to improve their food quality and address the deeply concerning issues surrounding their...
Read moreHands down the worst brunch experience I’ve ever had. Highly disappointed because people raved about this spot. I made a reservation, was seated fairly quickly, then waited 15mins for the server to take our order. They came back periodically to check to see if we wanted more water, because that’s the only thing we had ordered besides food. They stopped by 4 different times ask if we needed anything, then when they looked at our water glasses, asked if we wanted more water. After 57 minutes, our food finally arrived, plates super hot from being under the hot lamp. My eggs were overcooked from the lamp and my single smashed potato was hollow from the sitting under the hot lamp and cooking extra. My friends breakfast was sub par and overcooked as well. Overall we were so surprised by the lack of attention to this experience. The restaurant was not even busy. I feel that we were forgotten about and nothing was done to make it right.
I understand it can get busy in a restaurant, as I’ve worked as a server for many years. But I think we were forgotten about, or the order wasn’t placed. I don’t mind waiting for good food. But waiting an hour, wheb it wasn’t busy, then getting overcooked food that was under a heat lamp was disappointing. I think that guest service would be reading the room and making sure guests are enjoying their time. If something is going to take an hour to get to the table, maybe try to take care of the table in a helpful way, not just painfully ask if we want more water.
I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately I would not recommend...
Read moreI was SO not impressed with their food. I sat in the bar area and the best thing about this place was the bartender who took my order. He was very nice, talkative, and engaging. The food, on the other hand, left so much to be desired. The presentation of the food and portion sizes were plentiful and mouthwatering; however, the food did not taste good. The flavors were odd and extremely disappointing. I ordered the Roasted Brussels, an appetizer, and they were probably the best tasting of all the other dishes I ordered. I also ordered the Candied Yams; there was absolutely NOTHING candied about them. Yes they had brown sugar and marshmallows, but they were NOT sweet or bared any tasty resemblance to the candied yams I was raised on. I also ordered the Collard Greens. SMH. Maybe some people like their collards sour, or tart, but I do not. I like collard greens, not mustard greens, which are usually more sour than collards. I was VERY disappointed. Lastly, I ordered the Apple Walnut Slaw. Again, disappointing. However, it has a vinegar base and not mayonnaise, so that may have been why I wasn't a fan. Finally, they charged me $3 more than what the menu indicated, which is weird when their menu changes frequently. Ultimately, I took the food with the intent to give it to a homeless person, and lo and behold, there was a young man with a sign reading, "Just Hungry," near the Arden Fair shopping area. Just his luck tonight. I probably won't be coming back unfortunately. I was hoping the food would have...
