On March 23rd two friends and I went to Streets Pub and Grub hoping to have some drinks and a good time. While waiting for our turn the karaoke host took a turn of her own at karaoke. She sung “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele. She sang the song very well and we were all impressed although we should have seen this as a red flag that she also takes singing very seriously, perhaps too seriously. One of my friends took a turn before us and then a couple songs later it was time for my friend and I to go up together. The song we chose was the 1999 smash hit “Smooth” by Santana ft. Rob Thomas. My friend and I wanted to sing the whole song with only the lyrics “Man it’s a hot one” while singing the repeated lyrics to the melody of the song. Unfortunately when about 10 seconds in the karaoke host yelled at us to start singing the song right or else she will cut the music. My friend and I paused. I thought about singing the song to the lyrics on the screen but I knew that we were doing nothing wrong and that we were just being bullied. I looked at my friend and continued singing the song as we planned and he joined back in as well. Seconds later the host raged with anger, stopped the music and told us to leave the stage. We kindly gave our mics back with no argument just with disappointed faces. As we turned to go back to our seats some people in our area were laughing and cheering for us. It seemed as if only the karaoke host had a problem with our style of singing. As we sat down the host was on the mic yelling that “she doesn’t get paid enough to deal with that” and that if anyone else comes up to do something like that again that “it’s about to get ghetto in here.” So not only did she stop the customers from having fun at a bar, which bars I thought were made for fun, but she also threatened us over it.
If you want a bar that allows for fun do not go here, the people working here clearly do not care about there being any actual fun, even when the customers are enjoying it. Maybe she was offended that we upstaged her with our fun while her perfect singing came off as boring. Staff shouldn't bully and threaten customers. If you want to have fun singing karaoke then go to a real karaoke bar and avoid this place. If you do go to this bar then perhaps buy this chick a drink because she can obviously use one.
She didn't even have "Superman" by Goldfinger. How are you not going to have "Superman"? Even Tony Hawk Pro Skater...
Read moreI have been coming to Streets for the last few months, and it's going to be difficult for me to find a more welcoming watering hole. I started coming for karaoke on Wednesdays, but I do pop in from time to time to get a drink, always from here first. Taps are well stocked for the beer fans, they have a great selection of various liquors, and the bartenders make some banging mixed drinks if I do say so myself. The bar also has a few dartboards set up as well as a few spare tables in the back area for beer pong. I hear that the fare in the kitchen are also pretty good, but I usually get there too late to sample it; you're gonna have to try it yourself! But the best part about this bar is its atmosphere. I feel very...
