The service you will get will depend solely on the baristas working at the time. I definitely want to give a shoutout to one named Caitlin (I hope that's the correct spelling girl!). Back in high school, Coffee Break used to serve these delicious veggie wraps with a ton of hummus and eating them with an iced vanilla latte outside during summertime was my favorite thing. After moving back to Salt Lake years later I was severely disappointed by some very low-energy barista that... Well, let's just say I could taste her dissatisfaction with life on the wrap that she served me. But then the other day I was there, Katelyn (imma try all the spellings hoping one of them will be right lol) was just so sweet and loving and caring that I asked her for the wrap... And she made me the best damn veggie wrap with a ton of hummus and so much love. And she smiled a lot. Just yesterday, my friend didn't like the vanilla syrup that was added to his coffee... I asked her if it was okay to replace it and she promptly agreed to it. I thought I had left my phone charger there, so I called and Kaitlin answered with a smile on her voice. She was so kind and reassuring. When I found my charger was hidden in my bag, I called to let her know. She was very sweet. So if you're there during Caitlyn's shift - tip her well. You'll see what I'm talking about when she serves you!
Also, their internet is weird sometimes, but decent. Don't sit outside if you're having business meetings, traffic can get pretty loud on fourth south. There is a lot of space for study groups and meetings inside though, they have an amazing back area with tons of couches for larger groups. Their iced hibiscus tea is great in the summer, order it with mint and squeezed lemon!
If you're a smoker, this will be your favorite coffee shop. Yes, it's the only coffee shop in town that sells cigarettes at the cashier. In fact, they're slowly kind of turning into a convenience store.... (?)
Another highlight is that they are open until very late, they never close sooner...
Read moreI usually dont leave bad reviews but I want to save others the uncomfortable feeling i had after remote working here. I came here because of the reviews saying it was a great place to work from. The atmosphere and coffee are great and the wifi was fast. There was plenty of open seating. However, at one point i asked a staff member if there were outlets (they were under the tables so they were hard to find). He replied that they were under the tables and immediately went on a strange tangent about how he had a “problem” that maybe i could help him with, where people were staying for a long time and there were no more empty tables. I was genuinely confused because 1) i looked around and there were at least 10 empty seats and 2) i didn’t see anything about a time limit so i felt bad that maybe i had missed this. I asked if there was a time limit and he said “no, but maybe i should create one because people buy one coffee and stay for hours …” and kept going on this rant. He then put his hand on my shoulder and said “but im so sorry, you just asked where the outlets are.” I felt like this conversation was super awkward and strange, and I also felt really uncomfortable being touched by this man. I totally understand that its hard to make money when people buy one coffee and stay for hours (the way i had, I will admit). And it wouldve been fine if this were a rule they had. But tbh I felt this interaction was rude and very odd. I was so uncomfortable that I left right after that. I’m...
Read moreAiry place with high ceiling, lots of windows, bare floors and moveable small tables, wooden chairs (tad noisy). Bus your own tables, no waitstaff on the floor. Ample electrical outlets everywhere for laptop/phone. Bathrooms clean & spacious, decent parking out back.
Mostly University students there to study, read local newspapers, play chess or the Chinese board game GO. Good coffee options and some great fancy pastries such as almond-flour cake with glazed berries on top. Also has fresh salmon and some quiche for more of an "entree" fare. But not cheap--a coffee and pastry and tip, all told, approaching $10 pethaps.
Biggest drawback for me was not a lot of sugar-free or no-sugar options. Obviously meant for a really young and healthy crowd who don't have to worry about what they eat in any way. Also, could be a little noisy if you're in a quiet mood. Really just depends on how full the place is or how empty it is, very unpredictable on that. But great ambiance if it works out in the way that you're needing. This last time I went, was for a discussion group which had about 6 people coming. When I arrived the place was full, but I staked out a couple of spots, and when those patrons left I pushed the tables and chairs together and made a group corner which was perfect. By that time, the restaurant was quieter and conducive to our discussion group. Two hours before that maybe not so well suited. Two hours after, quite...
