Rude/aggressive staff. Small portions for the prices. Smells of bathroom air freshener when you walk in. Empty restaurant with no other diners. Don’t waste your time/money on this restaurant.
Went in with my pregnant wife at 8:30pm. The restaurant was completely empty but we were seated quickly and given water and a chance to order in a timely manner. After receiving our food around 8:45pm, and expressing gratitude, my wife and I were quietly chatting while eating. They started to flicker the lights at 8:59pm. Fine I get the hint, they are closing.. and the waitress immediately brought us the check.
We were probably only finished with half of our three entrees when the other server comes over and exclaims we must pay now, they are closed. This was at 9:04pm, and he raised his voice repeating himself several times. We agreed to pay quickly and requested several to go containers and started to pack up our meal, as we were doing so, the waitress arrives and starts clearing our plates and silverware before we can even use the utensils to pack up our food. At this point, we politely asked her to stop and asked for a couple minutes to pack up and explained that we felt rushed by them both.
Immediately the waiter (who told us to hurry and pay) stomps to our table to instigate an argument, and asks what’s the problem and says he is going to explain something to us. We shut the aggression down immediately, took our food, and were out the door at 9:09pm. Meanwhile, their “Open” sign was still on and they continued to welcome door dashers/take out.
Worst service, atmosphere, prices, and staff I’ve ever...
Read moreThis city has it all wrong. We're in town from AZ for the week and ate at another Thai restaurant our first night here that had a higher rating. It was terrible! The meat was like jerky, the vegetables had been frozen, and the appetizers definitely came from a box. Surprisingly, a few nights later we were all ready to give SLC Thai food another chance and we're all so glad that we did.
Thai 101 is phenomenal! We ordered Pad Thai, Crab Fried Rice, Orange Chicken, Crab Puffs, and Pot Stickers. Every single item was delicious! The portions are generous. The meats were delicious, with great texture and moisture, and all the veggies were fresh. The Crab Fried Rice is SO good and is a full meal, which is how it should be.
The funny thing about the first place is that they didn't even ask us what spice level we wanted. I knew right away we were in for it. The spice levels at Thai 101 seem to be on point. Level 2 was a bit too spicy for the average person, but just right, maybe slightly mild, for someone that likes some spice. Personally, I enjoy some spice but don't want to be punished and would...
Read moreThe food was excellent. If it weren’t for the terrible service, I would have given 5 stars. We barely received any decent service, no water refills or removal of empty plates, which I wouldn’t have minded normally. The point is that there were only three adults and a one-year-old in our group, yet they still automatically added a 20% gratuity to the bill. Their explanation was that groups of four or more are automatically charged this fee. I was quite shocked because most restaurants I know only charge a mandatory service fee for larger groups, and they counted my one-year-old as an adult, even though all she got was a high chair. I had to ask the server to remove this fee, and in the end, I still left an 18% tip.
To the owner: if you’re going to implement such a policy, at the very least, make sure your servers are capable to offer satisfactory and quality service. Having this policy along with poor service will only let customers like me never come back even you make the...
