My Capital One Café Experience: A Safe Place for New Parents

I've been a loyal Capital One member for over a decade and have frequented this Capital One Café since it first opened. It's become my go-to spot whenever I need a comfortable place to work or host quick client meetings while my wife shops nearby.

Recently, my relationship with this café deepened through an experience that truly showcases what makes this place special. As a first-time dad to a 3-month-old daughter, I was hesitant about bringing my newborn while trying to work. My wife really needed some time to herself after weeks of full-time baby duty, so I decided to brave it and manage both work responsibilities and infant care at the café.

Like many new parents discover, babies have their own agenda! When my daughter became understandably cranky and started crying, I immediately felt that sinking feeling—worried I was disrupting everyone's peaceful workspace.

This is where Assistant Manager Rogelio truly shined. Instead of the awkward "maybe you should leave" conversation I was dreading, Rogelio approached with genuine understanding. I would give them a -10 if I could. I went into a capital one cafe to deposit a check and realized that my name had not been updated on my account to match my check. As a person who is newly married it is really sad that as a woman I have to change everything to confirm my identity. The people in the cafe could not assist me with updating my name even though I had documentation to prove my identity. I was then informed that I would have to upload a w9 form which is a vendor form and my government issued ID. This process would take 7-10 business days. Just for a name change! I sent in the information requested and was told that I would need to put my new name and signature on the w9 form. I called in on 7/3 to confirm that the documents were received and that this would be updated. I was then informed by customer service that this was denied on 7/1. This was never communicated to me by your organization. The reason was due to the fact that I did not provide my social on the w9. Even though I had a government issued id proving who I was. I was then informed that I would have to re-send the information and wait another 7-10 days. I was also told that they did not have a direct way to get in touch with them to get an update internally. They only had access to email. They informed me that the turn around time would be another 7-10 business days. Meanwhile, I have bills to pay. There was no one that I could be escalated to and I find this a very stupid practice considering that there is no way that I can get a status on my request. No help at all. I had an amazing guest experience with Rogelio that I would like to share. On March 30th, I visited the cafe to study for the day. I sat in the couch area that soon got overwhelmed with loud families, so it made it hard to focus. Rogelio noticed and when he got a chance, he kindly offered to move me to a quiet nook area that was not in use. He even provided a free handmade drink for the disruption. Not only did he solve the problem to make me feel valued, but he took the time to notice how he could improve my experience. He is so sweet and approachable too, which speaks to his interpersonal skills. I am thankful to find a cafe that goes above and beyond to make the experience wonderful.
