I had never been to Joe's Crab shack before. very first time, and very excited to try Dungeness crab. I had had snow crab in the past at Red lobster, but this was on a whole nother level.
For a start, we asked a waitress about the price for the Dungeness crab, since it was reliant on market price (they were busy that night, so a waitress filled in for our waiter while he helped a party of 10 nearby). So she recommended us a crab bucket, which was only $44. The bucket of crab, was served with other entrees like corn sausage and shrimp. And they gave us just the best tools you need to enjoy Dungeness crab, a crab cracker, and a special crab fork (I'm not sure of the official name, but it was like a scoop and pick that could help you get that delicious meat out of the shell).
The staff there were textbook polite and helpful. When there was concern if the seasoning contained Cayenne, a substance my mother is allergic to, they took it very very seriously. Almost immediately, our waiter flagged a waitress down and asked her to immediately go to the kitchen to find out what the ingredients were on the seasoning. Shortly after the manager came out and explained that while he was confident there was no Cayenne but rather paprika, he told us to immediately contact him if my mother had an allergic reaction, and he would do his best to perform first aid.
Thankfully my mother did not have an allergic reaction, so it's safe to say no Cayenne was involved. The rest of the dining experience was great, our waiter checked up on us frequently and asked if he could get us anything else to which we mainly got refills of our drinks. The best was yet to come. When we inquired about the dessert menu, our waiter was able to suggest their famous campfire s'mores, which was chocolate cake with chocolate syrup graham crackers marshmallows and of course a Hershey bar. Boy let me tell you it was delicious. Loved it. The best part was, our waiter saved our food literally. He was just about to put it on the table, when another waiter accidentally plowed into him and, and when he lost grip on one hand he immediately grabbed it with his other and then slowly placed it on the table.
We all had a great laugh when we realized what had happened. And then when he took our plates from our main entree back he knocked over the bucket which again, gave us a great laugh. I definitely would love to go back next time I'm in San Antonio. Many thanks to our waiter and waitress...
Read moreWhen we first sat down we were greeted & our drinks were taken. After that we waited about 20 minutes before we were asked if we were ready to order, by a completely different server, mind you the restaurant was dead (barely anyone in there). We weren’t informed about any shift change in the time we waited, but we sat patiently, even after seeing a table who arrived after us already get their apps/food. Once the server/bartender Jenny got our orders, we only saw her about 2 times throughout our 2 hours there. It seemed she only had us as her table (a 2 top) & 3 other people at the bar so I don’t understand the lack of service on her part, being a server myself. When we got our food, Jenny the server checked on us once, then went back to the bar where she was seemingly just talking to other workers there. Once we decided we were done we waited about 20 more minutes until I decided to get up and walk to the server myself to let her know we were ready to go since she clearly wasn’t going to ask. Since one of us was also an employee of the Landry’s company, we needed a discount. As the server was going to get a manager, with my phone & card in hand, she stopped midway, with me following, to do a BIRTHDAY. After the birthday she let the manager, Shaylla with blonde hair & crooked bangs, know about the discount and she approached the situation already on one with an attitude. We walked back to my table, where the manager was aggressively explaining what we needed in order to get the discount. She approached with attitude and honestly dealt with the situation so unprofessionally. While talking to the manager, the server Jenny grabbed our plates & stacked them without asking if we wanted them to go. I told her we were planning on taking them and she offered for us to take the plates she already stacked. Which honestly… who the hell, and what kind of server does that. If she as a server can’t handle 3 people at the bar & 1 single 2 top table… she shouldn’t even be behind the bar. After the manager, Shaylla, took our card she came and tossed it back on the table & just walked away. She later came back with new food since the server decided we weren’t going to take our original food to go, but the overall experience was horrible. The management is horrible, and it’s not our fault that their servers suck. We were there for 2 1/2 hours and that’s time we’ll never get back. Wasted at a horribly managed...
Read moreThis was mine and my families first time here. I was so excited to eat here. They sit us on the second floor because it was cooler up there and we had a two year old that we were celebrating . It was his birthday. We ordered his food first Mac and cheese and fries and all of our drinks. We looked over the menu and I knew I wanted steak and Shrimp and so did my mom. We ordered medium well steaks. My husband had never had crab so he was looking at the fried cod and crab. We also ordered the appetizer that has the crab dip, calamari, and some kind of cheese balls. Excited about our choose. My son’s food comes out first and it’s cold not just a little I mean cold. They apologize and when he returns brings our appetizer. We finish it and after about an hour our food comes out. My mom cuts into hers and it is a lot of blood and she tells me her steak is cold, before I ask for our waiter I have everyone check their food and sure enough all the food is cold. The potatoes, broccoli was like it was never cooked. My husband’s crab was so cold we couldn’t even snap it open and his fish. I wanted to cry I had such high hopes of this place. The manger comes down once we complained to a waitress not our waiter that our food was cold. He only says sorry and grabs the plates and walks away. We waited another hour for our food. Now it’s been two hours. My moms steak was still mooing and they didn’t bring me broccoli they brought me asparagus. I switched plates with her I wasn’t willing to be there 3 hours just to eat food I was already disappointed and pissed off about. The waiter never brought the utensils or bib for the crab so my husband could it. I was so over it. We get our check and see nothing was even done about all the mistakes or the 2 and a half hours we had to wait for mistakes they hardly fixed. The waiter runs downstairs and the manager comes up and hands us our card says nothing . My moms told him is that how you make things right ? Is that your excellent customer service? His reply was I can give you dessert. Wow completely shocked after 175.00 dollars tab poor service poor food and management. It was our first and our last. Never did anything for my sons birthday. I get it he is two but never...
