Sojourn Trading Co. — Restaurant in San Antonio

I have to assume many of these reviews are bought? Their instagram gives the appearance of a cute, trendy spot with great snacks and drinks, but something isn’t adding up. This place was absolutely awful. Really one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had.

There were two people working in the whole restaurant. The bartender who was also waiting tables, and the “cook”. The drinks were fine, but the food was a joke. It was as if someone was pranking us by what was served.

First it took forever to come out because there was no one else working. We had to ask the bartender for our food because it was just sitting on the shelf for a while. Then what came out was so far off from what their pictures online show.

We ordered the oysters and were asked if we wanted cocktail and horseradish. The oysters we were served could barely pass as oysters, but the real tragedy was that they were served with NO JOKE: some salad dressing. I’m not talking a mignonette as shown online, no. It was a cup of balsamic salad dressing.

We also got the charcuterie board that came with about half of the items listed on the menu. We did not receive olives, or nuts, or pickles. Whoever made it didn’t even read their own menu. The slices of meats were also cut strangely, which made sense when I later saw the woman in the back preparing another one and struggling greatly with a huge knife instead of using the deli meat slicer…

I don’t know if we went on an off day or what, but we were shocked at just how poor everything was. If this is their standard, I don’t know how they stay...

I wandered here after a show at Texas Public Radio. They have highly curated and interesting drink and food menus. I believe Alan/Allen was my tender. I like sitting and watching the mixing action and ALL bartenders I watched were spot on. I wanted to try everything but I did have the east coast oysters with the kiwi serrano caviar and watermelon water drizzle. So good. Can't wait for a reason to come into the city and try everything else. The kitchen with attentive chef(s)is small. The flavors are quite LARGE ! Have a look around as the attention to detail goes far beyond the menus. Clean, asthetically pleasant, cool, a few outside tables, late night food service on weekends.. There's close parking in lot diagonal to restaurant...

Disappointing.

• Our eyes were burning the entire time from the food cooking and what seemed to be poor ventilation

• I understand the space is more on the small side but after water glasses and any additional beverages, the small 2 person tables leave little room for anything else including food dishes.

• Half of our order was delivered to the table and had gotten cold by the time the other half was delivered

• I asked if plain waffles were an option and was told yes, but still received strawberry flavored waffles that looked plain

• Part of the order was never delivered but no one checked on us til we were almost done so we went without

• The omelette wasn’t an omelette, it was runny, undercooked scrambled eggs on top of...
