WOW—what a turnaround! We had tried Board & Brew once before (at a different location) and honestly weren’t impressed. But after hearing rave reviews from friends, we decided to give it another shot—and we are so glad we did.

From the moment we walked in, Brian, the manager, completely changed our perception of this place. We were undecided at the register, and he stepped in with the kind of helpful, enthusiastic service you rarely see anymore. He recommended both a hot and cold sandwich, and we ended up getting both. Phenomenal doesn’t even begin to describe them—absolutely delicious.

Brian also encouraged us to sample a few beers to find the right fit, which was a fun bonus. Once our food was ready, he came by to check in and see how everything was. I casually mentioned one of the sandwiches could use a little extra kick. Without hesitation, he brought over some habanero sauce—and it hit the spot perfectly.

But he didn’t stop there.

Brian then went back and made a completely new sandwich with both jalapeños and habanero sauce, just because he wanted us to experience it at its best. We never asked. We never complained. He just genuinely wanted to give us an unforgettable experience.

Brian is truly the gold standard for customer service. His passion, attentiveness, and kindness made this visit exceptional—and made us lifelong fans. We don’t even live in La Jolla, but thanks to Brian and his incredible team, we’ll be making special trips back just for this.

My friend and I visited this location on Saturday. I wanted to provide you feed back on the workings of this location in San Diego. I got to say it was very disappointing and concerning. We placed an order today for a beef dip and a Tub tuna and were given the beef dip and some kind of Turkey sandwich. This wasn't what we ordered and after having opened it and my friend bitten it to his surprise it was not tuna. The guy worker took and sandwich and started rewrapping it. My friend asked the lady there that seemed to be the manager what he was doing and she said it was the Store business policy to reuse the sandwich and save it by giving it to another customers order. This is disgusting! I was shocked. He told her he touched that and was working in plumbing toilet prior to lunch. How could you do that? Was my sandwich also a resuse? In the past have any been? How can you run a business like this? In the future will any of my sandwich be a resuse returned one? Who knows who touched it and what it has. To make things worst. After we complained and returned the sandwich which wasn't our fault as the receipts clearly had the order right. The staff tried to punish us by giving less ingredients in my sandwich. Do better!...

My wife and I love board and brew and we’re so excited to find that UTC mall now has one! We went in today for lunch with our son, and each of us had our own sandwich. The line moved quickly, the staff was all very friendly, and helpful with suggestions. From the time we sat down, there was someone who came by to check on us, and be sure we had everything we needed. After our sandwiches arrived the manager Christy came by to be absolutely sure we were enjoying our meal, and offered to grab anything we may need additional. She was very personable and friendly, our son whose two appreciated her enthusiasm as well. I like the separation here between the kitchen and restaurant. It’s cool to see things happening, but sometimes makes conversation and acoustics a challenge. I also appreciate that’s the TVs they have setup can be seen well throughout the restaurant without glare. We didn’t sit outside, but can try that next time. The freshness and quality is usually what brings us to board and brew, the friendly waitstaff is a huge plus, and we’re so glad that this location carries the brand well! Thank you!!!
