Severely disappointed by the experience we had at Breakfast Republic this morning. We were looking for places near our hotel and this looked like it would be good. We had to wait for a patio table to sit with our dogs, which is completely understandable and we appreciate the option. Unfortunately, the wait for the table was nothing relative to the wait for being greeted, let alone having our drinks brought to the table. After waiting upwards of 10 minutes, I began to make a show of looking around in hopes that a server or the hostess (whom we were seated directly next to) would notice. That appeared not to work and after another 5 minutes, our server, Erik, finally came to greet us. No acknowledgement of the wait whatsoever but we were just glad to be helped so we placed our full order right away. The waiting did not stop there. After another 7+ minutes without drinks, I peeked inside to see our server running food, checking on tables, and closing out tabs. I understand that things can get hectic, so we waited another 5 minutes before finally asking the hostess directly for our drinks. Unsurprisingly, she returned with them in under 30 seconds as they were ready and just waiting inside. Again, no acknowledgement of the wait time for bad service or any attempt to smooth things over. At this point, we decided that things were not looking up whatsoever and decided to leave. Since our drinks had technically been brought to us (after waiting 10 minutes and having to ask another staff member to deliver them), we thought it was only fair to pay for them. So, I walked inside with a $10 bill and handed it to our server (Erik) after he was done checking out a table. I briefly explained the long wait for initial service and drinks and that we would be leaving, but that the $10 was for our drinks. He, again, did not acknowledge/apologize/anything. Instead, he merely followed me out to the patio and gestured to our drinks (that took 10 minutes and he did not bring to us) and then just shrugged about the fact that we were leaving. It is bad enough to provide such lackluster service, but the total disinterest in fixing the situation is what caused us to leave. I only hope that anybody else who decides to go here receives much better service than we did. That is certainly possible, as a table behind us in line was seated, greeted, delivered drinks and meals, and checked out all before we got our drinks.
Upon leaving this review, I browsed through other recent reviews. Just last week, a family of 5 experienced a similarly horrible experience while being “served” by Erick (sp?). His disappointing treatment and response to us today seems to be more than a one-off occurrence. Perhaps his section should be only a couple of tables right next to each other to...
Read moreI really wanted to give this place a 5 but my food was a bit too oily :(
I got the Chicken Sausage Omelette with egg whites, side of Gluten-free Bread and Brussel Sprouts Roasted Potatoes (upgrade from the regular), and side of Seasonal Veggies
They actually messed up my order at first. Got me the regular roasted potatoes with the omelette + a side of the brussel sprouts roasted potatoes. Asked them to get me the extra vegetables I asked for instead and also specified to use less oil on all of the stuff while ordering.
The potatoes and brussel sprouts and vegetables all had weigh too much oil! I actually had to use paper towels to press out that oil (and ask for extra paper towels because I ran out), and it was still a lot! Ended up not eating any of the potatoes and only had some of the brussel sprouts. At that point. It was like too much oil being consumed and not actually giving me that vegetable intake.
The omelette itself was amazing though. I really love that chicken sausage they used. It went great with the egg and the cheese and green bell peppers. Sausage on its own as well was so tasty. Probably my favorite part of the meal.
My fiance got the seasonal special - Prosciutto Eggs Benedict Bowl. This was a bowl of Citrus mascarpone, arugula, pesto, focaccia croutons, crispy pancetta and prosciutto, poached eggs, hollandaise, and chives. The combination was amazing. That citrus mascarpone base on its own was just beautiful! I tried some of it and we could have both. Definitely had a bowl of that separately by itself.
He also got the side of Oreo Pancakes. This came with two pancakes, crushed Oreos on top and more crushed Oreos and white Oreo cream filling between them. It looked so good that the table next to us asked what the item was so they could order it next time. As for the flavor, it was a bit too sweet. I was expecting that rich Oreo flavor but it was too milk chocolatey and sweet. My fiance felt the same, but he ate them as is.
The friend we went with ordered the Vegan Breakfast Burrito, a side of fruit and beer. He seems to enjoy his food as well.
I love the vibe of this place and the server was really nice as well. Let us sit there talking about 45 minutes after the restaurant closed. The only reason they sent us out was because the cleaning crew was...
Read moreDisclaimer: My reviews are of my experiences and expectations of places I patronize. We arrived in San Diego that morning after a long flight. This restaurant has great reviews, so we decided to try. The first bad sign should have been the unsheltered hanging out in the front. The next sign should have been the 35 minute wait. When we seated, our waiter, Erick, came over after 15 minutes to take our order. He then proceeded to bring a party of 5: two waters with four straws (next sign). No biggie to us because we ordered lemonades and coffee. The drinks we ordered came, and the coffee Olla was regular coffee. Not the exaggerated description on the menu. My kids food comes out 15-20 minutes afterwards. My wife and my food never comes as we watch our kids enjoy their pancakes and French toast. Erick is running around asking every table if they need anything while completely over looking our table. Sidebar: As a Black person, we grow accustomed to recognizing mistreatment and prejudice behavior, it’s life for us. We ask Erick to bring the check because we’re hungry and my kids are full and satisfied. We mentioned that we never got out food and highlight all of the errors in service we experienced. He smiles and apologizes then blames it on the kitchen to which counter that it doesn’t explain two waters for 5 people with four straws. He offers to go ask the kitchen to make our food, we decline as our parking meter of two hours is about to expire. He comps the beverages and offers my us fruit cups to go while providing a $20 gift card to come back. The fruit cup was rotten, and we gave the gift card to an unsheltered person upon leaving. Nothing to see here folks. Pick another location or eat...
