I have gone to this establishment a number of times as I live nearby and work at a club nearby. I have never had any sort of issues or hostile behavior until recently, On Tuesday 4/30 at around 8pm and a friend and I stopped by Bubs after the baseball game to check out the hockey games on tv. We were seated at a table, both of us are very recently sober- so did not plan on ordering drinks. The server came and brought us soda water, we watched the game for about 15 minutes when a friend joined right next to us at another high top table and ordered a beer. The server asked if we were good and we replied yes. About 4 minutes later we were approached by an African American male manager who told us “you need to leave.” Confused and completely shocked as we were just sitting watching the game not even talking to anyone I asked “I’m confused, did something happen?” He is standing maybe an inch from my face and says “you need to leave you are loitering.” Now I totally understand that the bar could be getting busy HOWEVER, the way this was approached and handled was totally inappropriate. He very easily could have and should have said “hey, we’re supposed to get busy and are gonna need this table so if you guys aren’t gonna order anything, I’ll have to ask you to leave.” That didn’t happen. Afterwards, I said “oh well our friend just ordered a beer. We’re both sober so we don’t drink.” He replied “then sit with her your taking up space here not ordering anything.” My friend goes over to sit at the high top with her and I move to stand over there and he says “you need to leave.” I’m at this point very confused and appalled by his aggressive tone. I ask “why are you being so aggressive, we ordered a beer?” He just kept repeating himself saying “you need to leave” and proceeded to make a scene. My friends and I gladly left, unfortunately due to this extremely inappropriate and aggressive behavior by your staff we will not be returning to your establishment. This manager needs better customer service skills and needs to be educated on how to effectively speak...

My brother and I came to town for a few Padres games from Vancouver Canada 🇨🇦 🍁 and Bub's at the Ballpark ended up being our go to place. Especially after our first experience was so enjoyable. Conveniently located on the corner of J Street and 7th Ave and just steps away from Petco Park.

We ended up going to Bub's Four times during our Five day stay. That's how much we enjoyed everything.

Our first time we tried a couple different Beers on Tap. Then I hit paydirt with the incredible Cali Creamin' Nitro Ale by Mother Earth Brewing. ( In my Pictures ) One of the best Beers I've had ever. Please DON'T get rid of that one...

We had the pleasure of having Andrea as our server not only once, but twice and she was absolutely amazing.

My brother and I decided to try one of the sandwiches each. My brother had the Archie Chicken and I had the Pittsburgh Steak sandwich. And both of them were incredible with outstanding flavor on both of them. I had the Onion Rings which were great and probably one of the best I've had, and my brother had the fries.

The other times we were in we tried a couple more sandwiches, which were the Southern Chicken and The Patrick Melt. And again true to form they were outstanding. Again I had the Onion Rings and this time my brother had the tots. The Tots were very good especially with the side of Ranch we both had.

The other two times we were in it was just for pre game drinks. Of course it was the Cali Creamin' Nitro Ale.

The four times that were in the service was excellent every time especially Andrea who we had twice. And the service we had while just sitting at the bar was very good. And the one was before the afternoon game and it was very busy that day. But the service was still top notch.

Also the Restaurant was very clean and the Washroom was very clean also.

So definitely don't hesitate to go to Bub's at the Ballpark before or after a game or event. Or just because. You definitely won't be disappointed at...

Security and the manager tossed me out because at 61 years of age age and I had my California driver's license approved by the man at the door, they couldn't recognize that I'm over 21 years of age and I let them know I didn't think it was appropriate. The law in California states you must check ID of anyone that looks younger that 21. Either they have been letting people under 21 enter their establishment, or they're incompetent enough to not recognize that a 61 year old is certainly not under 21. I'm guessing that the owner will not be pleased at the way I was treated, furthermore I recorded audio during this encounter in case security, the manager, and some other employee who refuse to identify himself but physically adjusted l asked l assaulted me tried to dispute this interaction. I RECOMMEND WHOLE HEARTLANDLY anyone considering patronizing BUB's in San Diego do not do so. They do not care about your rights! My grandmother was born in San Diego, as was my father, as was myself, as was my children. San Diego family since late 1800's. Do not support the BUB's establishments anywhere!! They will not listen to your concerns, they will without cause remove you if they disagree with the legal facts, and they will physically with malace and injury remove you. And they still fall back on "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone" while stomping on your constitutional rights. I showed them my current, valid California Driver's License and when I complained and stated that they should let their employees know that I/people were not going to be treated this way and it would likely effect their bottom line, ie. tips, they forcefully removed me from their...

Absolutely—here’s a more expanded and lively version of your review: --- At first glance, **Bub's** might not look like much—just another rowdy sports bar tucked into the heart of the Gaslamp, clearly positioned to catch the pre- and post-game crowds from the nearby ballpark. But don’t let the casual, no-frills exterior fool you—this place has two absolute aces up its sleeve: the **grilled wings** and the **queso dip**. Seriously, these wings are next-level. Perfectly charred, packed with flavor, and unlike anything I’ve had at any other sports bar, let alone one that caters to stadium traffic. And the queso? Rich, creamy, and so addictive you’ll be ordering another round before you finish the first. It’s the kind of comfort food that somehow manages to feel both elevated and entirely unpretentious. Drink-wise, Bub's leans into its identity as a high-energy hangout. You're not getting mixology theatrics here—and that's totally fine. Their **local beer selection** is solid, and the **giant margaritas** are a whole experience in themselves (think: fun, boozy, and built for a good time). Most mixed drinks cater to volume over nuance, so I usually stick with a beer or go big with the margarita when the mood hits. While it’s not a craft cocktail haven, Bub’s more than makes up for it with its laid-back vibe, crave-worthy bar food, and unbeatable location. If you’re looking for a fun, casual spot to grab a bite before a game or just hang out with friends, Bub's might just be one of the **best-kept secrets in the Gaslamp**.
