Opened in a new location downtown close to the convention center, Buca is still doing that they do best, family sized portions of red table cloth Italian comfort food. First thing you’ll notice is how open this location is. Others I’ve visited over the years always had several unusually small dining rooms, I’m looking at you Anaheim. But here the dining room is large including several theme rooms for bigger parties. Seating also is ample with large family sized booths. Everyone we encountered was friendly and knowledgeable, helping us navigations drinks and dinner. They were out of both IPAs, same thing happened at another location. Not sure what’s up with that, so if you like drinking those, be warned. There were 4 of us dining in so we were able to share quite a number of dishes. Standouts included their crispy-crunchy Fried Mozzarella appetizers. I mean fried cheese, what’s not to love. Chicken Parmigiana also reflected delicious crunch all smothered in sauce and cheese. Along side we ordered a Buca Big Fettuccini Alfredo, I’m pretty sure this was a couple of pounds of pasta. I’ve been eating leftovers since. All delicious and honestly, I was surprised the pasta was cooked perfectly al dente. On a side note, if you are only 1-2 guests and sit in the bar, you can order from their lunch menu. This includes smaller versions of their most delicious items. Perfect for a regular weeknight meal. I’m pretty happy they opened so close to our place downtown. It’s nice to have another pasta forward option in the area. Now they just need to get their IPA game together.

This is my first Buca di Beppo experience and I'm glad to make that first visit to this Italian American franchise in San Diego. I'm originally from Brooklyn with a strong Italian American heritage. I judge my eating experience to three basic categories: atmosphere, price and quality of food. The ambiance is great. The decor, furniture and listening to old standard music while eating is classic. The quality of food is good. The pasta was cooked at the right time and the sauce is not too acidic or sweet. The salad I ordered is great. I love the soaked Italian dressing. It reminds me of the way old school Italians would do it. The prices for the lunch menu is reasonable and recommend taking a large group for order sharing. I recommend this place for anyone with an appetite. Please watch the video to get the feeling of that old school Italian vibe. The vibe I used to get when I walk in a home with personal pictures all over the wall and home cooked Italian meals. ENJOY this place Google readers!

Unfortunately poor service here in downtown SD compared to other Buca di Beppo establishments. My party initially got seated in one section; but as soon as were about to order, we got booted to another far away section to accommodate a bigger party. New table had some dirty utensils too yet management was able to swap that out fast. Thankfully we got our order in quickly too as our primary server pretty much disappeared for the remainder of the evening. The food itself was the redeeming factor - can't go wrong with the large, yummy servings of spaghetti or eggplant. Had come to celebrate my birthday dinner here but no shoutouts or specials here like at other Buca di Beppo restaurants. Again, couldn't get a hold of our server until we all started getting up from the table to flag more staff down to just pay the bill and get out to continue the celebrate elsewhere. Wish I celebrated my birthday dinner elsewhere to be honest.

Horrible. We called ahead to make a reservation, the lady told there is no need for reservation as wait time is less the 10 mins. We got there within 5 mins after we called and put our name ( around 700pm). We waited for over 30 mins to get our table. Surprisingly, people came after us got table before us. Ok finally I asked about the wait, it turned out the lady totally forgot about us and told us just 5 mins. After 15 mins we got table.

Almost 15 mins after seating, our server stopped by , we ordered the garlic bread as an appetizer and food for our 5 year old daughter. She left saying she will be back to get the main order. She came after 15 mins with regular bread and said kitchen was backed up so the garlic bread would take some time. At that time we ordered a main course. After another 10 mins, we got the garlic bread but no food for my daughter. We waited 30 mins , our server came back with styrofoam foam box and said sorry we are backed up so here is some dessert. We opened the box and it turned out broken cannolis. We still decided to wait by that time our daughter fell a sleep hungry (900 PM). We still decided to wait as we were told by our server that food would be coming soon. Around 930 PM ( after 30 mins), we asked for the manager to some other server as our server never showed up. We could see that thier manager noticed us sitting and waiting but she totally ignored us for few minutes. Finally she stopped by at our table. We mentioned about our order, she said sorry for wait and asked If we wanted to take food home. We said ok. After 10 mins around 1000pm some body dropped a Togo box on our table. My wife decided to check as she felt funny. It turned out they tried to give us someone else's left over food. Ultimately, we decided to leave the place. We were so angry and humiliated but lucky for them that our daughter was asleep. We just left hungry. In short, they didn't bring my daughter's food and our food at all. We could see that all other tables were being served.

My wife thinks , they did it purposefully because she is white and I am an ethnic ( indian). According to her, they were acting very discriminating towards us in general.

We wanted to give ZERO star but there is no option for zero star...

Went to Buca di Beppo on Saturday the 19th of this month arrived there at around 7 and registered for 8th April but the hostess there seem to have a bad attitude she said it would be take about an hour and a half to seat us as we walk through the bar we noticed that there were seats available both in front and on the side where people were not being seated we approached the hostess and after that the bar will be okay to be set at she then mentioned to her that she was going to sit people there after 40 minutes nobody was set there and so we then approached the hostess again with her attitude she said that she was going to seat people there in the next five minutes we waited and still nobody will see the in front of the bar nor at the side we then decided to make a reservation because it seem like it was graduation night and the reservation was scheduled for 8 20 minutes after 8 a lot of people started showing up and we was still not seated within approach the hoses and it seems like at this point she gave up had one of her colleagues service down in the bar area so we waited for about almost an hour and a half to be seated we when we were already getting ready to almost leave due to the fact that we were not being seated and not being taken care of on the other hand the waitress was very quick took her order brought our order and we were out the door within the half an hour to 45 minutes we're trying to hurry up because the fact we had part and a parking lot where only two hours were given for $12 this was in downtown San Diego this was a ridiculous restaurant hostess and I believe it was to racial profile that she did not accommodate us when they were enough seats seating everybody else but us never again will I go here to this book of the Beppo if that Hostess is still there I know it might have been a hard night because of all graduation and prom but being there not being recognized not being called is out of line she knew we were there so again this hostess no-name did I get but unacceptable behavior unacceptable attitude on the other hand the waitress very sweet very quick very nice good tip given to her I wish the manager was there so like...

Worst experience ever.

I love Buca Deppo, But i will never go to the one on 6th Ave.

The dishes and silver ware are not clean, I had dried up speghetti sauce in between my fork when I unwrapped my silverware. My cup of water had white stuff stuck to the inside of the cup, it looked like melted chewing gum or something and pieces of it was floating around in my drink. The plates were wet and the bottom of the plates had dried up pieces of food on them.

We felt rushed the whole time, they brought out our check without letting us finish our meal. It was my birthday and my friends had to cancel last minute, So I never received my slice of cake, since the policy is you have to have a party of 4 to receive the free birthday cake on your birthday. (thats not their problem that my friends had to cancel, but the way the Manager handled the situation kinda sucked) When the manager brought out our food she seemed like she was in a hurry she talked really fast and literarily walked away as I was asking her for a clean fork to eat my food with. ....soo I sat there for 7 minutes trying to get someones attention, (I noticed no one there makes eye contact they just walk really fast to avoid being asked questions) which in my option is horrible customer service. Finally our waiter came but by them the food wasn't as hot, and i was ready to leave.

Worst birthday dinner ever.

I went to the Buca in MiraMesa and had absolutely no problems, my silverware was clean, my food was hot, the manger was a lot more professional, and my waiter didn't mind getting us extra napkins or refill our drinks, I rather make the extra trip and drive to MiraMesa Buca. I would definitely recommend this location over the 6th ave...
