It was my first time trying sushi ever…(not kidding), and this place did not disappoint. Located in a small shopping center off Rosecrans and Midway, Chef Jun is a rather unassuming place from the outside but the minute you walk through the doors your greeted to a nice spacious restaurant with lightly accented cherry blossom decor. We had made a reservation for 4pm on a Saturday but considering there was only a few tables occupied, that may have not been necessary. The menu was incredibly easy to navigate; a pleasing yet simple design with appetizers and sushi on one side, and nigiri/sashimi options on the back alongside other types of rolls. Pricing is reasonable with most sushi rolls around $18-20 and the sashimi/nigiri $18-40 depending on rarity of fish. For food we ordered: Spicy Garlic Edamame, Yellowtail Belly Sashimi, Fire Fire, Rainbow and the Sunrise rolls. The Yellowtail Belly Sashimi was divine with a melt in your mouth texture yet still fresh. I tried it both on its own and with a small amount of soy sauce and would argue it doesn’t need the soy. Out of the three rolls we got, the Fire Fire was by far the favorite. It had salmon, shrimp tempura, crab, avocado with spicy mayo and eel sauce. The tempura gave a great crunch while the spicy mayo accentuated the salmon really well. For my first time trying sushi, this was a wonderful experience. The fish tasted fresh without the overpowering fishy taste that had been my main resistance in the past. Service here is efficient and friendly with the chefs and waiters acknowledging us both on the way in and upon leaving. We will absolutely be back here in the...

Chef Jun in Point Loma is exactly what Point Loma needed! The menu is simple and offers an affordable Omakase menu “Kappo by Jun” and all star sushi rolls with a few small plates and entrees and a long list of options for nigiri/ sashimi/ maki.

The chirashi bowl is absolute perfection—overflowing with all my favorites: ebi, buttery toro topped with Caviar, rich belly of toro, melt-in-your-mouth belly of salmon, fresh halibut, and so much more. Easily over 12 pieces of pristine, high-quality fish for just $36—an unbeatable value for the quality and portion size. Every bite was fresh, silky, and perfectly balanced.

The Ruby Red sushi roll was another standout—the Toro and salmon literally melts in your mouth and leaves you craving more. You can tell the chefs put so much care and attention into every detail.

I plan to come back to try the Omakase $120 per person(not on the menu) and you have to make a reservation and let them know 24 hours in advance that you want to order Omakase. They won’t do it the same day.

This spot is a true hidden gem in Point Loma, and space and ambiance-wise it’s an upgrade from the La Jolla location. Service is excellent and the presentation of the dishes are on point. If you’re a sushi lover, this is the...

If you love sushi, go here ASAP. The quality is top-tier, the service is great, and it’s totally worth it. Definitely coming back. We already love the original chef Jun on Avanti so had to try the new location closer to us and chef Jun did not disappoint!

Right when you walk in, the place is huge with clean, stylish and modern feel, but still cozy. The staff? Super friendly and helpful. They know their sushi and are happy to give recommendations, which is always a plus.

The sushi here is next-level fresh. I started with our usual, spicy tuna cracker, always perfection with spicy tuna and avocado, followed by chicken karaage and tried chilean sea bass for the first time-light, savory with smooth texture. Then came the chef’s choice sushi plate with all my favorites. Toro melted in my mouth, the uni was insanely creamy, and the golden eye snapper nigiri aburi style (torched)!!! Ridiculously good with the fresh wasabi (none of that fake stuff). Small details, but they make a difference.

Even the rolls, which can sometimes be an afterthought, were creative but not over-the-top. Just really solid flavors and textures. And they have got a great sake selection, we got Kamotsuru Tokusei Gold with actual gold flakes. We will be regulars...
