The perfect way to end the night! Conveniently located right across the street from the Balboa Theater, it made for an ideal dinner stop. We tried three different rolls: the Ultimate, Downtown, and Bomb rolls. All were absolutely delicious, but the standout favorite was the Downtown Roll. It featured shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, avocado, cucumber, and gobo, topped with salmon, yellowtail, tuna, spicy mayo, eel sauce, scallions, and masago. Every bite was exquisite! Recommend this to anyone with a craving for great sushi!

We came to Downtown Sushi as a large party and we had a great time. We had reservations shortly after they opened so we were the only table there at the time. We ordered several appetizers and they came out hot and fresh. We had a few sushi rolls and soups and everyone's food was great. The service was very friendly and accommodating for our party. The atmosphere of the restaurant is interesting with many well done murals that you might find in an Italian church, but it makes a great conversation piece.

Downtown Sushi absolutely delivered! We had the spicy tuna crispy rice (crunchy, spicy perfection), melt-in-your-mouth fatty tuna sashimi, and dumplings that were packed with flavor. What really made the experience next level was our server, Molly. She’s a true sake guru—walked us through the pairings with so much knowledge and made the whole experience feel personalized and elevated. If you eat here, ask for Molly! She made our night. Can’t wait to come back. 🍣🍶

I had higher hopes for this place. Unfortunately, the server was obviously sick with something. It was disconcerting to see someone literally sniffling/runny-nosed touching and serving plates to everyone. I don't want my beer glass or sushi with a side of smeared mucus. On top of that, the bulgogi beef was served with a chunk of raw meat. Clearly they had rushed the cooking without fully separating the cuts, resulting in a clump of meat that was purple and raw inside the tangle. While they did offer a discount on the dish, this was not a sufficient service recovery. The pictures of the dining area are more interesting than the actual place. Inside is a confused Renaissance era fresco look paired with a speak-easy bar, oddly placed televisions, and a tacky cart made into a makeshift counter since the behind-bar access is totally opposite to where the people making sushi work. The food overall was only ok, with nothing that even "wowed" me. Sushi: fishy and bland, gyoza: greasy and bland. Bulgogi: ok, but raw. The best part of the meal was the beer (which they didn't make) and leaving. All in all, this place was over-priced with below average food. I will say the server would probably be great if she hadn't been sick, and for someone not feeling well I was impressed with her...

This was by far the Absolute Worst Experience I have had at any restaurant in all of Downtown San Diego! We went on a Thursday evening way before they closed at 10PM. I had to ask for water 4 times before we got any. Had to ask where are food was multiple times. Our Server Noor came up and said we are doing last call 30 min before they closed and we still hadn't gotten our food yet. How are we supposed to know if we want anything else when we don't even have what we already ordered?! Then when our food finally came, I asked for spicy mayo four times before I finally got it and when she finally brought it to me so I could continue eating our food she said are you ready to pay me now I said I will pay you when I am done eating my food. Needless to say, I do not recommend this place for any reason whatsoever I would rather pay three times the amount, which they were not cheap at all, then have the worst service for any restaurant in downtown San Diego. They were not busy. There was only one other table that was eating food inside the restaurant when we got there. No excuse to not have the best...

After watching the Padre and Toronto matches, I was desperate for hot soup in the extreme cold. I wanted to drink hot chocolate, but on my way to the parking lot, I saw reviews and went to find it. There were clear traces of the group passing by, but I was able to sigh of relief when I confirmed that there was room at the table. But what's going on? The sushi roll I ordered came out right away, but I haven't heard anything since. Pork cutlet curry and udon didn't come out even after 30 minutes, and fortunately, I was warming up with two cups of hot green tea. Thanks to that, I had no choice but to scratch to the floor as soon as the food came out. It tasted great, but it was too much waiting for 30 minutes. I couldn't take a picture. I was so hungry that I wanted to...
