Bards & Cards is a outstanding game shop in San Diego Gaslamp, owned by my two great friends, Jarin and Tony. I've been visiting the shop for over a year, and I can honestly say that it's one of my favorite places in San Diego outside of The Stout on 6th & B. They’re friendly and knowledgeable, and they're always happy to help you find the perfect game for your group and with some of the newer games, they're willing to show you a quick demo before you buy it. The shop has a wide selection of games, from board games to card games to miniatures, even the ol’ Monopoly with variety of editions. They also have a great selection of supplies, so you can stock up on everything you need to play.
I've played a lot of different games at Bards & Cards, including Dead of Winter, Magic the Gathering: Commander, RPGs like Blades in the Dark and Dungeons & Dragons. I've also seen a lot of Warhammer enthusiasts painting their models at the shop. The atmosphere is always accommodating and welcoming, and I always have a great time playing games with the other customers.
I highly recommend Bards & Cards to anyone who loves games or have time to kill in your hotel room. It's a great place to find new experiences, meet new people, and have some fun. I'm sure you'll have a great time at Bards & Cards, just like I have.
Oh, almost forgot in addition to selling games and supplies, Bard's & Cards also hosts a variety of events, including weekly Magic the Gathering, customer ran D&D games, board game nights, and miniature playing/painting jam sessions.
Can’t wait to see what surprises will show up with Comic-Con being down the street from them! We can only hope for interesting drop ins, I heard Henry Cavill is a big...
Read moreWe were in from out of town and LOVED our experience at Bards & Cards. The cashier was super personable, asking for our favorite games and suggesting things they thought we'd like. That's not super unusual for a board game shop though, what made our experience stand out was something else.
We weren't going to buy anything originally since we had to fly whatever we bought back home, but we noticed an expansion for a game we've been enjoying recently, and we didn't even know the expansion existed! We picked it up and took it to the checkout counter, where we met the same friendly cashier. Someone else was behind the counter, I didn't catch his name but he seemed to be the manager. When he saw what we were buying he came over to make sure we understood this was an expansion and to verify that we owned the base game first. This is such an incredible touch and, had we not been aware, it would have been a very sad realization when we got home!
This was a stand out experience and I would highly recommend locals in the are go out to support such a friendly, caring, and considerate...
Read moreI came in to the store to get my wife supplies for a card game she wants to start playing, so without knowing NOTHING about the game besides the name and thats it's a card game went and asked the attendants for help, I was helped by a nice dude and a young lady, both super friendly and tried really hard to help, turns out they have A LOT OF OPTIONS so I couldn't make a decision myself and asked them if they could sell me a gift card with enough money for her to pick and choose, the guy was super helpful and got me an average price to get all the basic stuff for the game, all in less than 10-15 min. Also they have tables were people meet to play with each other or work on their figurines, going in there I was having a panic attack since I didn't know and was scared of being put down but even the regular customers they had where...
