This popular tourist attraction is located on Pacific Beach. It is definitely the best breakfast in town. The prices are reasonable the service is excellent, the food is yummy and plentiful. You can sit outdoors and watch the ocean and the people go by. It's an unassuming down home kind of place. It is always packed every morning but well worth the wait. My breakfast sandwich with eggs bacon, tomato mayonnaise on a English muffin was only $4.95. My friend ordered pancakes scrambled eggs bacon for $7.95. She also ordered some chocolate milk and a Coke and it all came to about $12 how much was your chocolate milk for $1.98. This restaurant has been on the boardwalk for 27 years. If you're just visiting San Diego or if you're a local who lives here this is a great place to come. They're well-staffed so breakfast is out in a matter of 10 minutes or less. With beautiful views like this you could be at the Ritz paying a lot of money but prices are kept at a reasonable price. They do have a bathroom. There are 3 sitting areas: 2 outside and 1 inside. The wait staff delivers to your table outside. This cosy nook was established in 1991. I highly recommend this place. It's on the corner of garnet and Ocean Beach Boardwalk street. It's across the street from Paradise Cove....
Read moreFamily-owned joints like this, that have been around for decades, often become so beloved that their reputation precedes them far outside of their supposed sphere of influence. Case in point: I'd heard of Kono's Cafe all the way back home in Portland, so I knew we were in for good things here.
Queue up to order: there will be a line, but it moves fast enough to not be an issue, and slow enough to allow you to whittle down your selection before ordering. I had the Kono's Burger (fantastic! if I don't need to ask for steak sauce, that says something!), my wife had the chorizo breakfast sandwich, and the rest of our party of friends had...other stuff that I didn't pay attention to. Nobody left hungry or dissatisfied, I can tell you that!
There isn't any "service" other than the interaction with those at the counter, but even that brief encounter was jovial and welcoming; the owners and employees here seem happy to be there and to serve, which is always a plus. But hey, if I worked on the San Diego coast, I'd probably like my job more, too! I also dig the surfer vibe they've got going on here. It really ties everything together. Very recommended, and lives up to everything good I'd heard about the Kono Cafe! Would return in...
Read moreThis place is an absolute gem in the area! Looking for a good brunch place with my friend we found it and it was truly amazing! The location of it is absolutely amazing, right in front of the beach. The cafe itself has an amazing climate and is truly such a beautiful place to eat at. You would assume that with its location it would be one of the most expensive places in the area but it’s the complete opposite. The prices are very good and reasonable, way lower compared to the other places nearby, and the food you get is truly phenomenal. Me and my friend got the big breakfast combo and every part of the dish was absolutely delicious. The potato’s with cheese and onion were so good and the english muffin and french toast just made it better. Truly one of the best brunches I ever had. The workers and service there is also absolutely incredible and so kind! We ended up coming again for every breakfast while we were in the area. This place is absolutely wonderful, from its location to its amazing food and phenomenal service, I...
