This birria joint has made a strong impression, landing firmly in my top three San Diego favorites, and honestly, it might be number one. The true test for any birria place is consistency, so a return visit is essential to see if they can replicate this stellar performance. However, based on my initial experience, their birria tacos are nothing short of phenomenal. The meat is incredibly tender, and the tortillas are masterfully prepared, offering a delightful contrast of crispy edges and a softer center. Their consommé is a highlight, evoking the comforting taste and aroma of a cherished homemade recipe, and thankfully, it's not at all oily. Beyond the tacos, the chips and salsa bar are a huge draw. The chips are uniquely seasoned with a birria-infused salt that makes them exceptionally addictive. Of the six salsa options, I tried the "Spicy AF," jalapeño crema, and salsa verde. Each had a distinct and memorable flavor profile that left me wanting more. I also appreciate their thoughtful combo meals, which include consommé, tacos, and chips for a very reasonable $12.99. The inclusion of extra cilantro, chopped onions, sliced radishes and pickled onions is a welcome touch. I'm already planning my next visit. Update: I actually came back yesterday after I read my review to my wife. She wanted to see it for her self. Again, you guys did not disappoint. I did confirm the consistency and tried all six salsas which have their own distinctive tastes, I personally enjoyed them all. My wife really enjoyed the Jalapeño one while I explored tasting each with the tacos and chips. I really love Spicy AF and Jalapeño one on my tacos and the Verde/Chunky on my chips. I truly appreciate your attention details and consistency, can't wait to make this my regular go to for authentic birria tacos. Thank you again for this continued...
Read moreWe went by Mikes Red Tacos in Point Loma today for dinner and immediately noticed that the place was buzzing with activity. The best way I could describe the restaurant would be like a mid-high range fast food feel (think like Habit or Kebob Shop feeling). They had two self service order stations near the entrance but we chose to walk up to the counter when we were welcomed cheerily by one of the staff. We both ordered the number one combo which is two birria tacos with cheese with a side of consomé and chips and were handed our order number on the receipt. While we waited for our food we visited the salsa bar which had a wide variety of options at various heat levels. Our favorites were the hottest one (orange) and the red garden salsa which was good for dipping the chips in. The dinner itself is presented attractively on a metal tray. The tacos were substantial in size and they give you a large number of chips and a cup of consomé for dipping. We both thought that the food was tasty and, for a fast food type of restaurant, extremely fresh. I mean, our favorite birria place is in Tijuana and this isn’t that kind of authentic but for a San Diego birria place at a reasonable price I have to say we were super impressed. We will definitely be making this a regular stop. If you like birria or even if you are curious about it and like beef I would recommend giving them a shot. They also have quesadillas, nachos, fries and burritos available for those that aren’t looking for tacos. Parking is plentiful in the shopping center...

But let's talk about the real star of the show – the veggie tacos. As someone who enjoys plant-based meals, I'm always on the lookout for places that offer delicious and satisfying veggie options, and Mike Red Tacos did not disappoint. The veggie tacos are nothing short of amazing. Each bite is a burst of fresh flavors and textures, with perfectly seasoned veggies that are cooked to perfection. The balance of spices is just right, enhancing the natural taste of the vegetables without overpowering them.
The tacos come topped with a generous portion of fresh salsa, creamy avocado, and a sprinkle of cilantro that ties everything together beautifully. The tortillas are soft and warm, adding to the overall delightful experience. It's clear that a lot of thought and care goes into preparing these tacos, and it really shows in the final product.
While Mike Red Tacos is not exclusively vegan, their veggie tacos are a fantastic option for anyone looking for a delicious plant-based meal. If you're in the area and looking for a place that offers top-notch veggie tacos, Mike Red Tacos should be at the top of your list. Whether you're a vegetarian, vegan, or simply someone who appreciates good food, you won't be disappointed. Highly...
