I'm editing my review because I noticed I didn't put anything to accompany my 3/5 stars. I haven't been back outside of my first impressions, but I'll write down what I remember.
Burgers were ok. The meat didn't seem anything special, and the 'thing' to make the burger unique just felt like it was trying to be unique rather than actually good tasting (I had the mushroom burger for reference). The bun was pretty good from my memory, but otherwise found myself wishing I had stopped by Wendys instead.
Fries were kind of bad: it was crinkle-cut fries that I recognized immediately as the frozen bag of crinkle cut fries you can buy at any Food 4 Less and fry up in a home fryer. Nothing to set it apart from that (seasoning or taste) so I assume that's where they got it from. Didn't end up finishing because it just wasn't all that great. Little over salted as well.
Shakes were great: I'll give it to them that the shake I tried (Peanut butter) was delicious. So at least the name sake is safe - I would hope a "Shake Shack" would have good shakes ;). I might come back here sometime just to get another shake, but that would probably be it.
Pricing: Very pricey for fast food. Oddly enough you'll hear about the Shake Shack in some music, and hear about it being a trendy place - therefore there will be a cost to that. The burgers alone are in the 7 dll range, and the fries/drink/shake just add up from there.
Location: I enjoyed the Location at Cam. De La Reina. It was pretty busy, but there is plenty of seating and it's a nice place to relax. Brand new and cozy.
Overall: Overpriced, underwhelming. The Shakes are the one thing that stands out - so if you just want to grab a shake while you're walking to the mall it'd make a good choice, but the burgers and fries are not worth it. 3/5 stars.
Note: The content of this review was written months after I actually sat down to eat here - so the details are a bit hazy but I remember my impressions. I remember wanting to make a detailed post of the above feelings but just didn't get the time and didn't particularly want to make time to give a place a bad review (I don't enjoy trashing any place, honestly) but I feel like with the odd popularity of this place it's important for consumers to have all the opinions out there.
To be fair I may go back and give it a second chance to make sure I didn't mis-remember anything - if so I"ll update...
Read moreAfter reading online reviews of East Coaster standing in line for hours I expected much better. First, here in San Diego there was not much of a line, it was Memorial day weekend though, but that was the first sign this was not what the reviews had indicated. After paying almost 29 dollars for two burgers a small soda, fries and a shake, my buzzer went off. I made my way to the counter to pickup the order. The order wasn't ready yet, so wait somemore ( not sure what that is about maybe somone pushed the wrong button). The order shows up, missing lettuce and tomato. This seem to me to be a simple fix, but in reality not. After getting to the table with my order I was expecting to enjoy the burger. My first impression was " well it doesn't look like the picture." First bite, well it was, blah, not much favor. Last bite was the same. The meat looked like it should be good, I really did not taste the sauce, maybe they forgot that also. The frys were nothing special. The small soda was that, small for $2.50. The shake was good, that I could recommend. I am not sure what the others see in this place but I will not be back. If you want a much better burger there are number of good burger places at this price point. Hodads, Funky Fries, Nicky Rottens and Annies hamburgers. It you are looking for a fast food experince at a much lower price In & Out is a much better value costing about half, but they always have a line...
Read moreFirst time eating here, and probably the last. Looking at the website, the burgers looked great, and a shake sounded perfect. Took the family and ordered, 5 burgers, 2 fries and 5 shakes. The total was $75 not including tip.
The food arrived, and we were disappointed at first glance. The burgers were tiny (think McDonalds hamburger size). My wife's said her burger was OK, but not worth the $9 price tag. My burger patty was tiny, maybe 3 ounces, and smaller than the small bun. I added bacon to my burger and the bacon they use is the same super-cheap bacon that Jack In The Box uses on their breakfast foods. Not at all appetizing or flavorful. Of the three kids, one finished their burger, but the other two said it didn't taste very good and only ate about half. The fries, while OK, we're the same crinkle fries that you would get at a mom & pop burger place, so nothing special. Also, the fries were barely warm.
Lastly, the shakes. While tasty, the shakes were not nearly as good as you would expect for a $6 small shake.
Overall, not good. Save your money and eat at one of the many, many great local burger places we have...
