We decided to give this place a try. It took them 20 minutes to bring outa sprite. Then 25 additional minutes we stayed without food and when we asked them what's going on they realized they put our order paper in the pile of "already made" orders. They then told us to give them 3 minutes and our orders will be out. First one was actually out in 3 minutes and then the rest followed. I ordered a dragon roll that fell apart as soon as it was placed on the table. I told them I'm not able to eat it. They said they can make another one but because dragon roll is "juicy" it falls apart. They got the impression that I have never had a dragon roll for some reason. They then sent the only woman that works there to apologize to us and then waived a large portion of the charge. We ended up paying $26 for 3 rolls and a sprite but the messed up thing was, the man that actually took our orders and charged us, never apologized. Just let us know that a portion of it is on them. That bothered me. If you're in the service business you can't have ego and attitude like that. The lady was super nice and polite. The man needs to check himself. Also the sushi, 10/10 NOT worth the price or any price. Grocery stores have...
Read moreI recently visited Sushi Nekosan, and it was an incredibly disappointing experience. Despite arriving on time for our reservation, we were left waiting for 25 minutes without any acknowledgment from the staff.
When we were finally seated, the service continued to be horrendous. Our server took an additional 15 minutes to take our order and seemed uninterested in providing any basic customer service. When the food eventually arrived, several items were missing, and what did arrive was lackluster. The sushi rolls were poorly constructed, and the fish lacked the freshness you would expect from a sushi restaurant.
Throughout our meal, getting the attention of the waitstaff was nearly impossible. They were inattentive and acted as if our requests were an inconvenience. Refills on drinks were forgotten, and we felt completely neglected.
In summary, Sushi Nekosan offers terrible service and mediocre food. It was a thoroughly unpleasant dining experience, and I would not recommend it to anyone. There are plenty of other sushi restaurants where you can enjoy better food and, more importantly, respectful and...
Read moreDon't let the negative reviews fool you. Sushi Nekosan has some of the highest quality fish and most unique/flavorfull roles in all of San Diego.
I'm originally from the Bay Area, and when my Fiance and I first moved to SD, we had a very difficult time finding Sushi Restaurants that were A) worth the price and B) actually serving high quality/fresh fish. Sushi Nekosan checked those boxes with flying colors.
The restaurant is very small, so yes there can be wait times and yes it's in La Jolla so parking isn't the easiest in the world. But for those that truly appreciate high quality fish, this place is a MUST VISIT.
We've been here at least a dozen times and not once have we been dissappointed by the food or the service.
Azuki in Bankers Hill and Himitsu in La Jolla also have very high quality and fresh fish, but the rolls at both of those restaurants are very basic/standard in comparison, plus more expensive.
Our favorites at Sushi Nekosan include: Spicy Tuna crispy rice roll (Just trust me) Dirty Blonde Bad Bunny Speicalty...
