Brenda's is definitely a must try in San Francisco!
Food and vibe and everything is perfect!
There was a read of about 20 or 30 minutes and it was a bit hot outside but definitely worth the wait.
They have so many good options here that it's actually hard to pick.
I ended up going with a salad and ordered blackened shrimp on that. Dressing on the side. I was hoping for more greens in the salad so I ended up asking for the second salad of just greens instead. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and went really well with the greens. I did not like the dressing at all though. It was extremely tangy and just didn't seem fresh and just not good. There was also salt and pepper on the salad which took me by surprise to be honest.
I also ordered a bowl of cornmeal which was just beautiful! Actually so warm and creamy and perfect. I don't think I've had such good cornmeal before!
My fiancee got the Eggs Benedict with fried chicken and he absolutely loved it! I tried some of the biscuit and also the chicken and they were both good. He really loved how everything went together. That really sauce was also perfect and so were the poached eggs. Just a really good dish overall. He also ordered one of the salads and the server didn't understand the order and ended up not even bringing it. We asked for it again and they took at least 10 minutes to bring out just the plain bowl of salad without any protein or anything asked in addition. Kind of a let down there.
The best part for me was the beignets! We decided to get just one of the simple plain beignet and regretted not bringing more! The beignet was so large and soft and warm and just perfect and beautiful! There was actual steam coming out of it and we both devoured it in seconds!
I would definitely recommend the beignet over anything else!
I've had beignets at other places but they've all been very oily and felt fried. This one actually felt really light and nice and no...

Read moreA decrepit neighborhood with small improvements over the last weeks, I parked a few blocks away and started to walk towards the restaurant. It was lunch time and the restaurant had a Menu on the wall and a notice to beware with pick pockets in the area, I noticed a palm tree right next to the the building and went in with no waiting in line, I was greeted and sat at a table next to the service area, i was given the menu and the server got me a glass of water and took my order, I started with The Soup Gratinée and had The Catfish des Allemands for Main Course. The Onion Soup was served on a round Au Gratin piping hot dish, the soup had the classic French recipe with sweet caramelized onions beef stock and to finish it off, toasted croutons with melted Swiss Cheese on top, one of the best I tried on a long time. The server timed the main course just in time for the main course, blackened Catfish over a bed of the most delicious rice pilaf with lots of pecan nuts, the dish was covered with a savory crawfish étouffée…delicious! The server was not intrusive on a relaxed casual ambiance, a bucket of dinner utensils with paper napkins on the table and nice Louisiana tunes to make your dining experience more pleasant. The restaurant had a line of people ready to get in for lunch time by the time I finished. I will definitely be back and next on my list is to try the assorted Beignets on the menu. Overall a wonderful time that makes you forget the...
