The location of this place is definitely convenient to public transit and many offices in the city, so it seems like a common lunch spot.
They have vegan options, including as far as I can tell, the tofu bahn mi and eggplant bahn mi (substituting soy mayo).
I got the tofu bahn mi through MealPal and it appears to be the normal size, which is nice, and the sandwich itself was good.
It doesn't seem like a traditional Vietnamese place, but I don't have a problem with that. The sauce used was a little too sweet for my taste, partly because the carrots already add a good amount of sweetness, but the tofu was sufficiently crispy and flavorful. I also liked that the bread wasn't too thick (it may have been hollowed out) so the tasty inside of the sandwich were more noticeable. I definitely appreciate the spice of the jalapenos, but it is something to consider if you don't enjoy spicy food.
I have to give this four stars because Dinosaurs, which has a few locations in the city and serves similar food, just does a better tofu bahn mi in my opinion. Their tofu is shredded and fried to create a wonderful texture that is more interesting than just marinating it.
In any case, the sandwich packaging here (shown in the attached photos) was noticeably well-designed aesthetically. Too many places have succumbed to using a plain white paper or similar, so this was an added touch that made the food feel a tiny bit...
Read moreOverall, pretty disappointed for a $10 sandwich.
I was originally going to Cafe Dolci, but they had run out of banh mi. I quickly looked up a place and chose here. I noticed the outdoor seating and the trendy decor. I went in and immediately saw the difference in pricing listed on yelp. Sandwiches were $9+ and other items were more expensive. I saw they have a happy hour from 3pm-6pm, where sandwiches were $6, but for dine in only. It seemed pricey, but a lot of people were eating here after 2pm, so it can't be that bad.
I ordered the five spice chicken sandwich and it came to be $10 total. I waited about 10 minutes before it came out. The sandwich was so small for the price I paid. I guess I should have expected this, since it is in the heart of the financial district and on market street. The sandwich was ok. I'm not sure why but half of it was spicy?? The bread was super toasted and extremely crunchy. The chicken seemed to be a little greasy, but not that much sauce.
I was pretty disappointed in this sandwich for the price. I felt that the sandwich was small and only okay. I might come here for their happy hour prices, but most likely will...
Read moreI was in FiDi and needed something quick and cheap before I headed to the airport to avoid paying for overprice and non-edible airport food. It wasn’t cheap and though I didn’t have to wait super long, it took them longer to make my sandwich than I anticipated considering there wasn’t too many people there.
I thought I’d try something new and go for the Sloppy Bun which has red curry ground beef, garlic mayo, onions, basil and jalapenos. I was a little disappointed as there was barely any curry flavor which I was really hoping for and the ground beef was just whatever. The bread was just alright. Usually I’ll cut the sandwich some slack if the bread is really good, but it was alright.
Overall, expect to pay nearly $10 for a...
