The best fabric store in SF. So many premium material from Italy and France. Of course, a little pricy.... And when I say a little pricy, it means The price of the fabric is more expensive than ready to wear sold in the mall.
Update: My favorite fabric store “Britex” has moved to its new location. It’s still around San Francisco union square, just a few blocks away from the old store. The new store it’s definitely an upgrade, the first floor became larger, customers now have direct access to “new fabrics” and “final sales” without climbing stairs. It is as cozy and immersed in the atmosphere as the old stores. I like that store has nearly 70 years of history, it offers enough options for many high quality lace, wool, cotton, linen, silk. More importantly the sales people here don’t just sell, they are consultants, many of them have a side-business as a designer or a tailor.
I recommend you take a look at this store if you want find quality fabrics which is better than JOANN. Britex won’t let you down. The owner and the staff here really understand the...
Read moreBritex Fabric, an iconic San Francisco institution with a history spanning over six decades, has been a cherished destination for me since my teenage years when I first began sewing. I would frequent this store, captivated by its remarkable array of textiles.
The quality of the fabrics is extraordinary, and the staff is both attentive and well-informed. Britex Fabric truly serves as a haven for designers, showcasing exquisite textiles sourced from across the globe.
Douglas helped us on this occasion. He was joyful, patient, and supportive of mixing and matching fabrics to find the right vibe! He made the experience priceless.
As a seasoned designer, I can appreciate the high-quality and uniqueness of the fabrications and trims offer at Britex. It’s not meant for home sewers looking for bargains or commodity products.
Lastly, Britex is located in Union Square with an abundance of activities nearby, so it’s worth a day trip from anywhere in...
Read moreWhat a terrific place. Aside from the most beautiful fabrics, buttons, and trims, it was THE EMPLOYEES that were outstanding. We were traveling encumbered by a suitcase and looked like travelers. They welcomed us and stowed our bag, encouraged us to touch and unfurl 300$ yards of fabric - just to see it. I overheard conversations on fabric matching and construction of garments and was asked if we need help. There was no hovering. (I mention this because I have been treated pretty rudely by other shop keepers over 30$ yard fabrics, having bolts snatched from hands and been 'intercepted'. Apparently, don't I look the 'part'). Not here. Friendly, warm, like we were frequent shoppers. An elevated fashion sense was on full display from the fabrics to the staff. One of my highlights in S.F. and I came for the Dead shows. As a fabric horder this is definitely a destination for me. Thanks again to the staff for the...
