Koolfi is an Indian and LGBTQ+ owned ice cream shop located in one of the Salesforce building. The owners were super friendly and consisted of a lady and her mother. They were so nice, and it was so endearing seeing the mother support her daughter and explaining the flavors and options on the menu.
They have a variety of unique flavors. I had their gulab jamun sundae with a scoop of the Klassic Koolfi (Malai Kulfi) and one scoope of the jackfruit coconut flavored ice cream.
The gulab jamun sundae consists of two warm, fried balls of dough drenched in a sweet syrup with one scoop of your choice of ice cream on top. This was my favorite! I have had gulab jamun before and always think it pairs well with cold ice cream on top, and I really like the Klassic Koolfi flavor, which had pistachios, walnuts, cardamom, rose water, and saffron.
The jackfruit coconut flavor tasted exactly like its name. As a Viet who loves jackfruit, I really liked it, and it tasted very reminiscent and familiar to many of the cold desserts we have! You can really taste the jackfruit which has a sweet but tart taste.
There is no seating inside, but there is plenty of outdoor seats.
Overall, I would come back to try their other unique flavors and support their...
Read moreI have some strong opinions about this. A friend shared an insta reel with the 2 ladies who founded this place. Their passion about the food, especially the coffee was infectious. I get this coffee (south indian filter coffee) shipped from India to enjoy a good cup. So, to discover someone who "makes coffee better than the place where it's grown" literally made me leave work early to try this.
You can guess by the stars what I think of this place. The worker who prepared my coffee warmed up the decoction in the microwave. Anyone familiar with filter coffee knows that it's a cardinal sin to warm up the decoction. You can't claim to make better coffee than the motherland and not train your employees to make them well with the passion you had in the insta reel. Was that reel all for social media clout? Who knows.
I tried a couple of bread snacks which were good. But they were reheated out of a paper bag, which leads me to believe they weren't prepped in house. So the only thing they made in house was disappointing.
I haven't had jackfruit ice cream in a long time so, may go back to try that, but will temper my...
Read moreKoolfi makes an amazing vegan chocolate ice cream! I'm lactose intolerant and love chocolate so I've tried every ice cream shop's vegan chocolate and Koolfi's is one of the best. It's made with coconut milk but does not taste like coconut, there's plenty of cocoa flavor. The ice cream was the perfect smooth, creamy texture and not ice-y at all. I tried a sample of the Guava with a hint of red Chile which was fruity and tasty though I didn't detect any spice in my small sample. The kind employee was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about all of the menu items. They added a piece of the dosa cone to my ice cream so I could taste it - would be a nice lentil-y background flavor when paired with any ice cream. Excited to try more sorbet flavors and a savory treat and support this queer and woman-owned business. This ice cream spot is a bit hidden away and while there's no seating in the store there's plenty of tables and chairs outside and free wifi - the perfect place to relax...
