Seriously understaffed. We came here on a Friday at 12:30pm for lunch (primetime) and had to sit outside in the scorching heat because there were no seats left inside (the place is SMALL!). We were there for 15-20 mins and no one came out to take our order or offer menus, or to attend to any of the other customers outside (all still waiting for their food). Most of the tables inside were also waiting for their food. After 15-20 mins, we went to another Mexican restaurant on the same sidewalk and were immediately provided with menus and our orders. I love the Callejeros brand and continuously visit their other locations, but this one needs to properly staff this location, especially on days in which it’s bound to get packed (Thursdays and Fridays for lunch, especially in this working district). Also, the tiny shades placed outside on the sidewalk barely shade you from the sun and rain. I would recommend to place proper shades or umbrella tables. Will give it another shot in a couple of months.
Note: This review is only for the service and atmosphere. I love their food and...
Read moreCallejeros is a Mexican food gem. We were scheduled to attend a theater audition and we arrived early, so decided to look for a place to have a bite and a couple of drinks. Although there were a few restaurants in the area, it caught our attention that Callejeros is dedicated to Mexican street food. The ambiance is like any regular small restaurant in any city in the world. The staff is very friendly and as soon as we sat , they were ready for us. They have a very varied menu that went from tacos birria, to fish, tongue and lamb tacos, they had elotes, flauta of different kinds of meats, they also offered garnachas, totopos and many other things. The food was memorable, it had an authentic Mexican taste to it. I tried the tongue taco the wrap was made from scratch, and the tongue was to die for. My wife had the tacos birria and said that they were excellent. The place was very clean, the staff was friendly, good food and cold beer, PERFECT!! If you happen to pass by one of Callejeros restaurants in the San Juan metro area, go for it, you will...
Read moreI decided to go here for lunch as the other San Juan area was closed for that day. Unfortunately when I went in I had pretty bad vibes as one of the workers was just on their Mac and the other was very impatient when taking our orders. I ordered this new al pastor type quesadilla.
So I found it fascinating when after he gave us our meal he disappeared into the kitchen to listen to Sabrina Carpenter and leaving WhatsApp voice messages in the kitchen. I didn't ask you to queen out and "serve" in the kitchen we need you to serve tables cause the other girl is busy playing dress to impress on her Mac.
The quesadilla al pastor was also interesting. It seems they diced half an entire onion on inside. It took me 5 minutes to excavate to find the meat and the pineapple when other regular quesadillas just have the meat and cilantro.
I'm sure this review sounds bad. But it was actually still delicious, I recommend the queso, and all the food in this place. Just... hold back on the onions and don't let your spotify daily mix burst out loud in...
